A few weeks ago, I sent this letter to Tom Cole (R-OK, 4th District), my Representative. Today, I got a reply from him:
<address elided>
Dear <Flyboy>
Thank you for contacting me regarding your support for H.R. 47, the Citizens' Self-Defense Act of 2005. I always appreciate hearing from fellow Oklahomans on important issues such as this.
As you may know, Representative Roscoe Bartlett introduced H.R. 47 on January 4, 2005, and it was immediately referred to the House Committee on the Judiciary. This bill protects the right to obtain firearms for security, and to use them in defense of self, family, or home. As an NRA member, I am committed to protecting Second Amendment rights to keep and bear arms. I also believe that law-abiding citizens have the right to protect themselves and their families from violent felons. I will vote for any legislation that provides individuals with the ability to provide for their own self-defense while also opposing any legislation that includes stringent gun control language for honest citizens. [emphasis mine]
Again, thank you for contacting me. It is through your insight that I am better able to represent the people of the Fourth District of Oklahoma. If I may ever be of any assistance to either you or your family, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you in the future.
Sincerely,
Tom Cole
Member of Congress
Other than the the fact that he only seems to oppose "stringent" gun control (whatever that means), I'm pretty happy with it. Now we just have to get it out of committee. Have you written yet?
