I just finished reading through that post. Great writeup. I feel like I've tried to convey a lot of this info over the years and there is always that guy or guys who responds saying just go get the most expensive dillon and start pulling the handle... the only thing i see missing is that if you dont have the patience to read that entire thread before or after you have been reloading. Well you may not be right for it. It takes time to learn(im far from knowing even half of it) but you have to be willing to read and understand what you are doing. I dont consider myself an old man at 39 but damn have i seen some poor practices already in my time. Both from younger and older loaders. This is a very rewarding hobby if your willing to invest the time to learn the basics. From there you can go full blown bench rest prepper or just liad consistant hunting ammo, or crank out pistol ammo as your heart deaires.

I think every person does their best to help in their own way.

Yes and for some reloading is more work than hobby; so that’s what they convey in their advice. The vice is also true; if reloading is your form of entertainment, that’s what gets passed along. The first piece of advice is, here’s what I do that works for me; but don’t do what I do because it probably won’t work for you. Take the example and adapt it to your circumstances.
It’s kinda sad to see so many people whose only answer to any question is, you need to do what I do because it’s the only way.

It certainly is, Everyone has a different circumstance, different sized rooms to reload in, different incomes, some can't afford a lot. Some don't shoot a lot but still like making their own.
Some people have a very narrow view on how things should be done. I can tell you if some of those people ever had to supervise a maintenance dept they would be in for a big surprise.

As the old & disgusting saying goes, There’s more than one way to skin a cat.

Some of that can be based on someone's own personal experience... a good or bad experience. Sometimes it's the bad experiences that leave the biggest impression... and can make a person a bit one-sided on some things.

I do agree with the OP, however... even we 'salty old handloaders' can learn something new if we keep our eyes and ears open, and look past some preconceived notions. Cast bullets in rifle was one of those instances for me, for example. I do, however, have to draw the line somewhere... Unique is still the BEST powder evarrrrr, no changing, period. (See? We can all be a little hard-headed once in a while... ;) )

@AJC1 has been one of them younger (meaning newer to handloading, not graybeard ;) ) whose really pushing a lot of new directions. I learn a lot from his discussions; and, sometimes what I learn is, I don't want to try XYZ. LOL!! Good thing about newbies is, they don't know what can't be done, so they just do it anyway. :)

I purchased a complete RCBS kit as a gift to my younger brother (he is mid 40's). Smart person. LIKES to work/repair/modify pickup/car/house. He is a handy person

Actually combined an in person visit with him. Started him on ALL of the steps, in depth, LOTS of discussion.

Hopefully not, but probably not a good idea.

My first rule. QUIT READING THE INTERNET FOR LOADS for your replica 38/357 & 45LC revolvers and 45LC lever action. READ and FOLLOW the VERY specific recipes on Hodgdon's website.

I am back home a week.....and he is texting "this load looks like it should work" Or, "can I load 38+P but use in my 38/357?" Reaffirmed to QUIT READING THE INTERNET FOR LOADS. Use the powder manufacturers info for your, VERY specific needs - they are NOT Smiths/Redhawks/Blackhawks!!

Occurred again. I quit replying to texts.

When he stretches a frame, he might listen........but I doubt it.

One might impart the Knowledge of pressure, plus p pressure and contacting said company to find out if his firearm is rated for additional pressure. The why might help him understand that it's not a good idea.

Holy smokes! That’s not a good start. I have similar problems with my father in law and computers. He texted me once about two years ago telling me I needed to jump on this fantastic deal he found… they only lost about $600, mostly in banking fees.

Warn your brother. Maybe you can’t save him from damaging a firearm but you might be able to save him from financial ruin.

That's just the license plate holder on my dad's 70 landcruser when we were blasting across Pismo and galmamis. It's a joke.
I figured as much, I'd like to have that 70 cruiser for a hearse when i die, lol But, I haven't decided if i want to be buried or my ashes shot out of a full auto AK,

Because I retired after 23 years as a Sr chief I requested that my ashes be shot over the bay off the constitution during cpo season... holding breath.

Hold it long enough and that day will come sooner.
My uncle Rob retired as a senior chief. The Navy kept threatening to make him an officer so he retired to Arizona. Said he had enough of the water for two lifetimes.
I tried to get him interested in shooting but he declined. Said anything under a 4” bore wasn’t interesting.

I did ask him to contact manufacturer. They replied - NO reloads.

Did ask him, you have a 38/357, why are you looking at +P?

Of note, I sent a long text, advising to follow the recipe, READ ABC's of reloading, and what our session was talked about. Advised, there is NO reason to take a left turn or grab loads off of your favorite cowboy or replica forum, when all that you need is available from Hodgdon, for free!!!!

Told him, I would feel crappy if he hurt himself - don't care about the metal object. He said, I won't haunt you. Told him.......who is going to take care of his daughter??????

This is a NO BS story. I was completely surprised by his significant wandering.
