Also he thinks that guns shouldn't be in schools, except for trained peace officers, because all it would do is escalate the situation. Or if a teacher trained in self defense with firearms carried, a student would take the gun. Any sources or comments to counter those thoughts?

Yep. You can really escilate a situtation where people are being shot.

And Raven, I don;t think anyone here is using that argument. More so, the instructor is trying to disprove that myth.

The root cause of crime is criminals, not the stuff they steal.

I once had a job where I had direct contact with a large number of hard-core career criminals. The overwhelmingly popular reason they gave for stealing was: "It's not my fault he let me steal it. He musta not wanted it that bad, or he wouldn't have let me take it away from him (her)."

Or, to quote Richard Pryor, speaking about all his black brothers in penitentiaries, "Thank God we got penitentiaries!"

I never meant to convey that I felt anyone here was using it. Rather, it's an oft-heard comment from antis, many of whom claim to be for gender equality.

I talked to the 65% guy tonight and he still can't produce the source of his "stat", he said again, "you can manipulate anything, so stats aren't that impt."

Well why did you BRING IT UP?!?!?!?

As to not allowing teachers to have guns in school....

You might want to point out that at one of the recent school shooting incidents in the US (not Columbine, maybe Kentucky?) a teacher had a gun, but could not use it to save children because it was in his car, and by the time he got it the shooter had already done the damage and was fleeing. The teacher did use his gun to apprehend the shooter.

If that doesn't work you might point out that there are several hundred dead children in Russia, who might have had a chance if their teachers had been armed and able to offer resistance to the terrorists. Given that the US has many Islamo-fascists mad at us at the moment, and given the fact that we legislate that our teachers be unarmed, I have to say I'm glad I don't have any children in school. The Israelis have learned that lesson and taken proper precautions. I predict the US will be locking the barn door after the horse has bolted on this issue in the future. Just like we did with airport securit. Sad but probably true.
