The rifle will be used mostly for hunting with a little target shooting thrown in. Narrowed it down to 2 stocks made by Boyds. The Classic and the Prairie Hunter.

What would be the benefits of the raised comb? As for looks (doesn't really matter) I like the style of the Monte Carlo stock but if it shoots weird . . . . Also the rifle will have a Nikon Buckmaster II
4-12x40 sitting on top.

My experience with raised combs like on monte carlos, is dependent on preferred head position.
Head up raised comb, head down strait comb.
Im beginning to prefer the raised comb personally, but its really best to handle each type before buying. I really liked the idea of thumbholes till i hunted with one for a few years, they just arnt for me.

This.

I shoot mostly offhand in the field, so I prefer the raised comb. (Actually, the comb is the same height on both - there's more drop on the PH to keep your head upright when shouldering the gun when standing up, and the raised comb compensates). If you shoot mostly prone or bench, the straight stock may work better.

Loonwolf nailed it, my weatherby Monte Carlo is just more comfortable for a cheek weld and quick target acquisition, on a few others I shoot, it's doable but not as "natural" I would say that a friend of mine with a real short thick neck prefers the non raised comb. If you have never handled one, run down to any gunstore carrying even a cheap vanguard (just found a weatherby at my Walmart yesterday almost fell over! Really like the manager of the outdoors dept. here) and heft one to your shoulder and see how she feels, you can also order a cheap strap comb riser and put it on your current stock and try it. It's not permanent and it's $15ish but if you don't like it, you're out less than a new stock and easier to remove too.

Tried the Monte Carlo twice. Once at the gun shop and today at the range. It fits real good when throwing it up off hand. At the range, I found it more comfortable as I could hold my head up a little higher than normal (less of a pain in the neck). Looks like it'll be the Monte Carlo stock.
Thanks to all who contributed to my stock delemma. The help/comments was greatly appreciated!
Next question: It has an accu-trigger. How hard would it be to drop the trigger pull down to appx 2.5-3 lbs. Or should I leave it at 4.5 since it's mostly for hunting.
Thanks, AJ B

Are you positive about the Boyds stock? I have seen a lot of defects. Not always but it seems a hit and miss situation.
Did you check the B&C?

I've owned 3 and only 1 needed to be touched. Had to be smoothed out just infront of the barrel lug forward about 2 inches. What kind of defects are you talking about? AJ B

- Inlets will not receive the action w/o additional cuts and fitting in several ocasions.
- Asymmetrical cut in the hand-guards and body. Possibly machining mistake during CNC operation.
- No pillars nor support in many models, perhaps in some other models I don't know.
- Magazine catch for some models is made of plastic and uses the front screw so for bedding will have to be retrofitted or made of aluminum.
- Some folks in other forums reported some splits by the shank. I have not seen that but have seen warping in the barrel channel that had to be fixed by
inserting a metal rod.

Again not always bad but I guess one gets what one pays for.
Also the people are nice on the phone, the problem is to get a hold of them.

Your accustock recoil lug will not fit most aftermarket stocks (well, it will fit but is smaller than the standard lug). You may wish to replace...

That's excellent! I've got a friend with an accutrigger that could be tightened a bit and a couple valve stem tools, never looked that far into it! Learning every day!
