Well wish I could have picked a better day. It was cold about 35 degrees and
overcast. Not much wind. So I did not shoot as much as I wanted to. Here is
what I got on a avg. of five shots with the veolicty spread between shots.
These charges are actual weight on a powder scale and not volume. These
were shot in my 32 cal. inline target pistol with a 10 inch barrel. The ball was
a "0" Buckshot and a .010 patch lube with a water soulable oil & water mix.
Caps were CCI no. 11 standard caps.
Goex 17 grs. 1113 fps 23 fps spread Swiss 15 grs. 1114fps 11 fps spread

Swiss 17 grs 1145 fps 22 fps spread Swiss 18 grs. 1147 fps 17 fps spread

Going to do some with the revolver when it warms up a bit.

That is just seriously impressive speed from such a small powder charge. What does a "0" Buckshot weigh?

Have you formed any opinion yet as to whether Swiss is cleaner?

I think they are 50 grs. Will weigh one later today. From the 30 or so shots
I fired yesterday, I don't think it's any cleaner. It seemed dryer.

So basically we're talking about the same weight as a .22RF

I was also wondering if you get the classic "crack" from the sonic shock wave when you fire this pistol?

As far as the cleanliness is concerned, I haven't been able to noticably tell if Swiss is cleaner. I have noticed in 45 Colt that my cylinder doesn't get as hot using Swiss as it does with Goex. It would be my guess that Swiss burns a little faster than Goex.

It's interesting to note a slight MV increase with Swiss at the same weight as Goex. Do you think that increase is conclusive or does it need to be tested more.

Just weigh 10 "0" Buckshot. All weighted 49.5 grains. Boy, these little suckers
don't vary in weight at all. Hornady says they are sweged plus or minus .001
Glad I got 34 boxes at 720 in a box. Yes the pistol has a good loud crack. I
feel the Swiss is a little hotter. I was expecting more velocity out of the Swiss, but didn't happen. The twist rate in the DeHass barrel in 1 in 14. Those little suckers must be really spinning at 1140 fps!!! When I go to Friendship in June we are going to have the speed of the lock timed. Should be one of the fastest ever. The distance from the striker to the nipple is just
3/8 of a inch and is pushed by a very heavy spring. You really can't hardly
cock it back, it's so strong. That's probably the reason the pistol is so named
"Lightning"

I'm waiting for my digital scale to show up from MidwayUSA, it will be interesting to find out how consistant Hornady .454's are. I'm not expecting miracles, but since I don't compete I'm mainly curious for the sake of curiosity.

As far as increased velocity out of the Swiss, you've gain a few percentage points so I'd say your expections have been met. It's kind of like the test I did with filler as a possible gas check, turns out that one was dependent upon the gun. I think that the Swiss will pay dividends in consistancy over Goex though.

Hope so, I've got 50 lbs. banking on it. One thing I did notice was I had a dipper set for 17 grs of Goex. When I filled this with the Swiss
and weighted it I got 18.5 grs. So the Swiss is heaver. When you think you are using the same as Goex really you are not. That's why I
always use actual weigh charges, not by volume. I want to know what I'm doing. I use a old Redding beam powder scale I bought over
50 years ago for 5.00 Weights to the 1/10 of a grain. Let me know about the scale from Midway. Been thinking about one.

The last time I weighed equal volumes of Goex & Swiss, I came up with Swiss being 11.5% heavier. But I think humidity has a LOT to do with volume weights. For instance I have a 30gr spout that in Wyoming during the summer throws exactly 30gr +/- a few tenths. I headed down to Arizona for the winter and was weighing throws from some other spouts when I decided to just double check that 30gr spout. Down here in the "Dry Heat" it throws 27gr +/- a few tenths. That was a 10% differential that I would not have expected, maybe 3-5% but not 10%. This was from the same batch of powder but not the same can, Goex incidentally.

As far as scales go, I'm using a Lee beam scale. Not the most expensive but it works for my purposes. The reason I want the digital is the Lee only goes up to I think 100gr so weighing anything other than powder is out. MidwayUSA had the Frankford Arsenal DS-750 on sale last month (I missed the sale) and it got me thinking that even at the $37 bucks it's not a bad price. The reviews gave it good marks except if you are using a trickler which doesn't apply to me. I'll let you know if it does what it's supposed to.
