Retail stores and guns

So what retail stores are you aware of in your area (or otherwise) that are still selling firearms?
Those I know of (which are blatantly obvious)
Wal-Mart
K Mart
Sports Authority
Big 5
How many stores around you are still selling handguns not just long guns or not selling altogether?
I'm wondering, do you feel retail stores will be stocking firearms much at all anymore? Do you think they will all eventually stop the sell of guns altogether? How soon if so?

I'm just curious, cuz retail stores around me are drying up as firearms go. I remember S-Authority used to carry handguns now just long guns. Big 5 did stock handguns at one time long ago now only long guns as well. And now even Wal-Marts and K Marts around me have stopped selling completely. Probably soon enough even the ammo and gun-related equip will be gone!
So what do you all have to say about this?

Well since you listed Sports Authority in there I guess you can also throw in Bass Pro Shops, which carries a full line of handguns.

Academy Sports & Outdoors in Texas sells handguns, shotguns, and rifles. also the best price on 9mm ammo i've ever seen, $3.86/box of CCI Blazers, or i think $3.99/box of Winchester white box. 50 rounds of 115 grain FMJ. the Blazers of course are not reloadable.

Gander Mnt., Bass Pro Shops, Wally World, Carters Country (5 stores), 4-5 different gunranges, 6-7 diffrent small shops. And that is just on the West side of town.

Wal-Mart = no firearm sales of any type. they have them but aren't selling them, just got back around to selling ammo again.

Academy Sports = selling everything.

No K-marts around here anymore

No Bass-Pro or Cabela's .... yet.

Used to have a local K-Mart and they did sell longarms (some others nearby did not) but, they closed down. They were replaced by Walmart, and this particular Walmart does not sell firearms or ammo and; it does not even sell a good variety of hunting supplies. Darned shame.

Sports Authority still sells longarms and ammo but gave up on handguns years ago. They often have employees who immediately display a piss poor attitude when you inquire about buying a rifle or shotgun or hunting supplies or licenses.

Local Dick's Sporting Goods sells longarms and ammo. The thing about them is piss poor service from about half the people who work for them. The other half is pretty good though.

Of course local gun stores (which are retailers) sell handguns and longarms but my guess is you meant the large chain stores.

There is also a local mom and pop kind of sporting good store. They sell it all from camper shells, to canoes, to fishing gear, to camping gear, to boots, to scouting equipment, to rifles, shotguns (both on display) and handguns (which they do not display). Pretty good, but a bit more expensive than Dick's for ammo, less expensive than local gun stores though. Great service, courteous, a very nice place to make purchases and get the respect that used to be shown to the customer about 30 years, or more, ago.

Wal-Mart & Dicks here in MO sell long guns (no hand guns). Bass Pro has tons of long guns but a pitiful selection of handguns, only revolvers and and 22 plinkers. No centerfire semi auto handguns at all.

Sports Authority (Manchester, NH) quit selling firearms and hunting related stuff. Won't shop there any more, either...for anything.

Big 5 sporting goods sell longguns and ammo, but no handguns.

Wal-mart does not sell guns here, and some of the stores sell ammo, some do not.

K-mart I have not shopped in for over a decade, but I hear they do not sell ammo or guns.

No local hardware stores sell anything firearms related, but I hear that's not the case in mostly rural Kern County (about 1.5 hour's drive).

My sources of firearms are my C&R license, a local chain store called "Turner's Outdoorsman", a couple local gunshops, and the Orange County Gunshow.

I have lived in three states so far, NJ PA and FL, been in a few K-Marts in others as well and while they all carry fishing gear and stuff and sometimes BB Guns I have yet to see them selling guns.

Every WalMart I have been in though has had guns though seems like the amount they actually carry is going way down and not a single clerk I have seen working there knew a thing about them. More then once I have seen the clerk give someone the completly wrong ammo and had to say something.

Walmart sells long guns.

Kmart stopped selling anything worth buying years ago.

Handguns can be had at a couple small dealers locally, more. In the big city 25miles to the east, MC Sports and K's Merchandise still sell handguns, as well as long guns.

It is not a big money maker to them, and a potential liability. Although, Meijers got rid of rifles years ago, and just now brought them back, so there must be some demand.

Dunham's has got to be one of the best retail sporting good stores for rifles. They have a big selection at ours. Armalite's, AK's, G3's, FAL's, Auto Ordinance Thompsons and M1 carbines besides all their surplus rifles. Decent pricing too.

Oops yeah forgot to mention that I essentially meant any store other than a pure firearms dealer/shop/store. And instead, more in the way of general sporting goods stores/chain stores yeah. But I think everyone assumed correctly anyway. Sorry my bad.

Around here, it is Dicks, Bass Pro, and Walmart. Sports Authority closed up shop a few years back and they did carry guns. No Kmarts in this area carry any firearms except BB guns. But, they have a limited selection of ammo. We are blessed with quite a few "retail" gun shops in the area.

G.I Joes sells guns right accross the street from Northgate Mall in Seattle. Thats the only one I can think of off the list. Oh and Yeager's Sporting Goods (no relation) up in the northend sold guns last time I was up there.

In SoCal, Turner's Outdoorsman is a popular firearms retailer. Then, there are several independents. And indoor shooting ranges sell too.

I think that some will.

Like I said, firearms/ammo are not any chunk of their sales. If it gets to the point where they think they will be losing money, or if it is too big of a liability, they will discontinue sales. Simple business, get rid of the things that are/could cost you money.
