Is Wal-Mart watching you?

WalMart in my area(Alameda County,Ca.) hasn't sold guns here for some time. Now they don't sell ammo.
I'm not sure if they're constrained by some ordinance or not, but I can go to any number of Big5 stores and buy both guns and ammo. WalMart has made their choice, and I shop accordingly.

"the guy who was infront of me turned around a said "Wal-Mart Police."

Funniest thing I've heard all day. If someone approached me and said that I don't think I could contain myself from bursting out in laughter!!

They are a private entity and are entitled to make up whatever rules they so chose. you are entitled to go elsewhere for your purchases if their rules offend you.

I just figured that pretty much all businesses are watching me at this point. The funny thing is that I don't really even care....maybe I should?

EVERYBODY MISSES THE POINT...

Nobody cares about being videotaped (I don't anyway)...the whole point of me taking my business elsewhere is because they made the agreement with Bloomburgh...if WalMart had made this decision on their own it wouldn't bother me one bit...in a nut shell...if they are going to side with the likes of Bloomburgh, they don't get my business.

First of all, his name is spelled Bloomberg not Bloomburg or Bloomburgh. I don't mean to come across as a spelling nazi...but if you're going to refer to the man, at least spell his name right so people who may be discussing the matter with you can appreciate that you know enough about the guy to not mangle his name.

Secondly - as others have said - if you don't like the company and who they side with, just don't shop there! It does no good to continually bring up the issue, especially if those of us who bring it up continually misrepresent what the situation really is. At this point, there have been numerous threads on this, all containing the same information. One only has to search, read, and make their own decision. What good does it do the community to keep beating this dead horse?

Yes, Wal-Mart is watching you. In the parking lot, in every inch of the store (not just the gun dept)...heck, I wouldn't be TOO shocked to find a camera in the john in there one day! :what:

They have been watching you, they will continue to watch you.

If that's not cool with you, I'd be happy for you to shop elsewhere (I'm still VERY angry with them for pandering to Mike Bloomberg). But be aware, most any OTHER place has at least some surveillance as well...

Read Walmart's message again...it makes a lot of sense!

"Wal-Mart understands its role as a leading, responsible retailer in the U.S. and is making strides to strengthen its already existing security processes to help combat illegal gun activity in the communities we serve. Wal-Mart has a long and proud history of offering the products hunters and outdoorsmen want and need and that will not change.
It is important to note that these procedures should not impede law-abiding citizens from purchasing firearms at our stores that sell them. These processes merely provide us, as a retailer, an additional mechanism to assist law enforcement when illegal activity occurs.

We are hopeful these enhanced processes with help from law enforcement and other retailers committing to do the same can make a positive difference in our communities.
Thank you,
Wal-Mart Customer Relations"

Three cheers to Walmart, to assist LEO efforts to keep firearms from criminals or have a record of said purchases. The last thing we want to read in our newspapers is another gun getting into the hands of a felon. I would be happy to pose for the next video of me purchasing ammo or a rifle, if it kept a gun from some gangbanger. A video is not a restriction on anyone...just smile.

Wal-Mart also has a sign to the effect if one "looks under 40" they are subject to being carded in making sure underage sales of alcohol does not occur.

I was informed of this by some ladies I know...
They rarely shop Wal-Mart, still a contingency went in to see if they would get carded.

The best gift one give a lady that turns 30 years old, and looks really young for her age, is to take her to Wal-Mart, and after getting her some 45ACP, stick some money and a bottle of wine in her hand and watch her get carded.

I need to suggest the gals call that Wal-Mart and see if they can get a copy of that video tape.
I understand she was quite happy to be asked to see ID if she was 21 or over.
Not the "looks under 40", at least age 21.

*happy dance at checkout number 9*

That's weird, because I am in my 20's and have never once been carded for alcohol in there...I'm not proud of it, but even before I was 21 I've never had any problems.

I'll be damned if I haven't been carded every single time I have bought ammo...Even for a .22lr.

I even tell them it is for a rifle, but I think it just goes over there head anyway.

ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Yea, we know. Wall-Mart is evil.

Oddly enough I bought 500 rounds of .40S&W earlier today nobody snapped my pic, nobody had me fill out any forms and I walked out of the store all by my lonesome.

Heck, I didn't even have any black-hellicoptors follow me home.

This is just window dressing. The call to NICS will prevent a felon from buying a gun, and the felon's signature on the 4473 is enough to prosecute him. The creepy camera thing is just PR, IMO, primarily so Bloomberg et al can claim to be "doing something."

Wal-Mart's surveillance taping should surprise nobody. There have been several well-publicized cases in which Wal-Mart's security cameras have recorded assaults or kidnappings (or attempted kidnappings) in their parking lots and the tapes were turned over to law enforcement.

I don't see how anyone could be in a Wal-Mart and not see the cameras. I was there this evening (unfortunately they were out of the ammo I needed). Look up at the roof -- those round plastic balls, the ones that are white on the top half and smoked plastic on the bottom half ... didja think those were party decorations? I don't think there's anywhere you can go in a Wal-Mart, other than the toilet rooms, and not be subject to surveillance.
