Retiring discontinued guns from defensive duty.

The only gun I wouldn't use for self defense is my father's K31 which he used during the war as a young territorial observer in the Swiss Army... All others, whatever the price, are there to defend myself or my family... But, as a lawyer, I do agree that a "flashy" gun may attract undue attention in court!

I retired my Star M43 9mm Firestar exactly because it was discontinued. I really liked it too. My concern was unavailability of spare parts. Prior to this I was considering purchasing a couple more M43s so if one broke during a training class I could just reach into my range bag, pull out a replacement and drive on. My M43 is now a safe queen.

It's been replaced by the Glock 19, which is now my "one gun."

Retire???

Only real question to ask is "what is the BEST gun I have for self defense." Not likely to be an unreasonably expensive gun. But whatever the price, the best defensive gun is the one to carry. Worried about the value of a gun? How about the value of your life. Rather have a gun tied up in evidence than lose my life.
