I'm in the market for one of the new(er) SP101's (5771 - the 4.2" .357). All the distributors are out and listing no b/o. I know many mfr's. typically do production runs, but good grief. A couple of the local LGS's quoted me a fine price, they just can't get them.

Online these and their .22 cal stablemates are typically selling for at or close to MSRP. I'm willing to pay a bit of a premium because I'm impatient, but not $100-150 bucks over and above a sane price.

I figured the current "black rifle" insanity would temper demand for other stuff. What gives?

Thanks...Funnel

Looks like it's most everything thats going up in price and becoming scarce.
Ammo, components, old bolt action rifles like Mosin-Nagants, revolvers...
rightly or wrongly there is a "get it while you can" mentality now.

I was at my local shop two weeks ago and they had been picked clean save the wall of 40+ used revolvers and about 100 bolt action rifles.

I've been watching bud's for the 4 inch sp in .357 since around august and they've been out the whole time s far as I could tell. I remember reading at some point last year that ruger quit taking orders because they were so behind. I hope that at some point this year I can get my hands on one. I'm in no serious rush though...summer is probably when I'll be in really good shape to afford one. In the meantime, I've got my new cz p-01 to give me the warm fuzzies.

Now is not the time to be impatient.

Put the gun on your wishlist on various sites and it'll come in.

MSRP is $699...

And the one noted above sold for $729...

Typical street prices (and what I was quoted locally, again, if they had any in stock) are close to $200 bucks less than that. I guess it really must be just a supply and demand thing.

Yep, they used to go for $529 all day long when I was in the market. I didn't end up buying one, but they were pretty easy to find.
