Revolver for my 21st?

I bought a Colt detective special in .38 (the ones with the black rubber grips) as a gift to myself for graduating from police academy. Mine was NIB and I had to drop a mite over $700 for it, but it was what I wanted and new I would keep it. For a 2" barrel, it is amazingly accurate with a quality that cant be beat. The double action trigger pull is a bit long and heavy, but if it bothered me that much I could have it worked on. I carry it as a BUG on duty sometimes, and sometimes as a carry off duty also. You can pick up a used one in decent condition for quite a bit less. I like the version I got because there is a shroud around the extractor rod, less to snag. Also, it carries six instead of five. A bit bulkier than the new subcompact autos (kel tec, LCP etc) but if you wanted a "classic" this might be a good option....

What he said^^.....

If you look, you can find a used Python that won't bust the bank. Here is my latest. An early 60's 4". She's got a lot of blue wear, but shoots like a lazer. I'd guess it will go back to Colt for a refinish. One very important part is the gun is still wearing it's original Colt grips, which are worth about half what a brand new GP 100 is............I got that gun for a tick over 700 bucks.

When I turned 21 back in the 1970s, my first handgun was a .22 High Standard revolver. I got a copy of Ed McGivern's book Fast And Fancy Revolver Shooting, and practiced learning how to shoot quickly and accurately double-action. I've kept the .22, and kept up the practice; my carry gun now is usually a S&W 640 .38 hammerless revolver.
