After reading Nightcrawler's post and hearing of some interest in the shortening of his Redhawk's barrel, I contacted the place I was planning to have cut my gun down: Pinnacle High Performance in Kempton, PA (a drivable distance from me). Their work has seen some high praise. You can check them out at www.pinnacle-guns.com
There is a 10% discount if we get three of us together to send in a $25 deposit. So, a basic job will be $171 instead of the regular $189. Other options are available. Below is the quoted e-mail that I received from them.
This does not need to be on a Ruger Redhawk, but it does need to be for the same kind of work. So if you have a 629 or one of them long-barrel .38's, here's your chance to make it a little more manageable.

That should not be a problem, To cut down a barrel, install a new front sight system, and re-crown is $189, Removing the writing and polishing the barrel is $30, and $35 to prep and reblue the barrel.
Moonclip conversions are $75 and trigger jobs are $60
A minimum of 3 guns of similar work will get a package deal discount of 10%.
It would be a little while until I could get started on them, but a $25 nonrefundable deposit will get a work order written and in line and I would then contact you about 2 weeks before I am ready for them, and I would have them for only about 3 - 4 weeks instead of 3 - 4 months.
