I was watching Narc on DVD (great movie BTW) and noticed something strange about the revolver used by Ray Liotta's character. At the shooting range he is firing the gun left-handed. I noticed the cylinder spinning the wrong way -- that is, if looking at the back of the gun the cylinder would be spinning clockwise. I know the scene was not shown as a reverse image, because the gun looked totally correct for the viewing angle (the cylinder release was not on the wrong side, etc...) Anyone have any ideas why this would be?

I didn't catch that but I was wondering what kind of revolver it was. An Astra? Something weird.

Have to play closer attention the next time I watch it.

I have been considering buying the Narc on DVD, but wasn't sure if I would like the movie. Is it a action movie or something more realistic like Heat? Is there alot of gunplay in Narc?

It is a police drama. The movie is good because of the screenplay, the story, the camera work, and the acting. There is some action with gunplay, but it is of a pretty realistic nature. Liotta is terrific in his role.

The DVD includes a piece detailing how the movie came to be made. It was an independent film which explains its short run in theaters. Tom Cruise was so impressed with the film that he got behind it and helped it become a reality.

It's a gritty police story to be sure, and the gunplay is very short and realistic in that sense. However, I felt the ending was trying desperately to avoid Hollywood cliches and narrowly failed. There was some unrealistic gunplay as in - *spoiler below*

when Jason Patric's characther takes out a perp in the beginning of the movie - great chase until the headshot past a hostage from ~10yds while running full tilt. :scrutiny:

I also did not like the ending, in the sense that Ray's character crossed the line against Jason. Seems to me by that point in their partnership Ray would've reached out just a little more.

I was thinking that same thought during the opening chase. He's breathing really hard and takes a running shot like that. ***?

I just watched this the other night. I get the feeling that the shot in the beggining was supposed to be a lucky shot - he had fired a couple at the bad guy and missed already, and fired two or three in that string one of which hit an innocent bystander. Then later at the shooting range he can barely keep his rounds on the human sillouette.

Towards the end, Liotta is using a nickel plated Python to terrorize the two thugs. At the firing range scene I was unable to tell if that was the same short bbled revo or not.
