After reading the "revolver check out" post, I noticed that the cylinder doesn't match up exactly with the barrel. It's less than a millimeter too far to the right. I have yet to fire this gun so I'm not sure if it will be a problem. The gun in question is a Ruger GP100 bought new from a trusted local dealer.

I'm supposed to go shooting this weekend but I'm not sure it is completely safe.

Here are some pictures for visual aid. In the first three the gun is held upright, like it would be fired. The last one is on it's right side (cylinder release facing towards the ceiling).

Any help is appreciated!

First, YES it is completely safe with slighty misaligned cylinders. No, I haven't diagnosed your gun over the internet. Take it to a competent gunsmith before you shoot it. It can be out of alignment much more than that and still be safe. The forcing cone will help. Second, if it does shave lead or shoot wildly different from that cylinder, send it back to Ruger and they will correct the problem. Seriously, they've got good customer service.

The first step is to mark the cylinders. The way I do this is in the middle of the cylinder on the left side I put a number with a sharpie. If it's blued, you can wrap the cylinder with a strip made from cutting them stick-on labels up. Shoot a group from a good rest out of each chamber. I prefer 5 round groups, but you can shoot three. If the groups from the misalinged cylinders are significantly different, you have a problem. More than likely, they aren't different by any noticeable amount and you will earn your guns confidence. Good luck.

Thank you very much Badger Arms! I took it to a local gun shop today and they said the same as you. If it shaves lead there's a problem, if not then no worries. I'll try what you suggested and see if accuracy is any different compared to the other chambers.

Thanks again!
