So many people fail to realize that allowing a robber to flee may create an even more dangerous situation. If the robber is successful in fleeing, he may return more heavily armed, or with accomplices, and either rob the store or ambush the manager and employees. They are witnesses, after all. Also, future robberies may just start with the robber gunning down a manager or employee from the start. Hard to do with a BB gun, but how long before he brings real firepower to the party?
I love this quote:
"The robber's trial should not have taken place in the parking lot of the Baskin-Robbins," he said.
Trial, what trial. A trial was not necessary. Trials are to try and determine if a suspect was guilty of a crime committed in the past, based on evidence and testimony. Conviction and punishment are doled out upon a suspect if it is found that the suspect is guilty, i.e. beyond reasonable doubt that s/he committed the crime. But, Jerome wasn't a suspect on trial, he was actually the robber committing the crime. Guilt established, trial not necessary.
