This is a bit backwards. Looking for a rifle for my vintage Weaver k4 60B scope with standard duplex reticle. Excellent blueing.

Let's narrow it down to a deer rifle from 1956 - 1969.

Whatcha think?

This has got to be one of the neatest questions I've seen!

I thought for a few seconds and came up with a Model 99 Savage would look good with the old Weaver. I don't own a 99 but would like to.

I do however own a tang safety Ruger 77 with a steel tube Weaver that I think matches well.

Gordon's linked rifle looks like a good fit too!

Winchester 88 or Remingtion 742. Get a Weaver tip-off base/ring combo and your period correct package will be complete.

I think a Remington 721 would be a good fit. Another would be the Remington 788

In the mean time, put it on a 22 and go shoot until you find the rifle you are looking for. The scope will fit in any one inch mounts. I have a Weaver scope on my custom 95 Mauser and a custom 98 Mauser. They have worked perfect for 50 years....chris3

I accquired a "made in the Sixties" Marlin 39-A , .22 last year and just happened to have an older Weaver K4 to top it. The rifle shoots like a dream.

The more I think about it, the more a pre 64 Winchester model 70 sounds appealing. The Remington 721B (with the better wood) would be more affordable and still have the vintage vibe.

Ditto on the Pre-64 Model 70. I own a Model 70 Roberts topped with a K-4. My commercial F.N in .250 Savage is scoped with a K-6 Weaver. As mentioned, my Marlin 39-A is topped with a K-6 Weaver. Those Weaver scopes were great and MOST rifles in that time frame ( Model 70's, Remington 760's ) were very accurate EVEN with factory ammo. Best part is that the K4's sold for around $45.00.

Those old Weavers were the bottom of the barrel back in the 50's. I would not put one on a gun.

I get them on guns I buy once in a while. I put them on guns I am selling.

To add: Of the nine extra scopes I have only one is a junk weaver. The rest are upscale: Lyman, Zeiss, Leupold.

Bottom of the Barrel?
I don't understand! Good CLEAR optics, POSITIVE click adjustments! At the time it was ALL the scope that the average Deer Hunter needed. The pre-dominant rifles of the day were Model 70 Winchesters, 760 Remingtons and a SLEW of Marlin 336's. Most of the aforementioned rifles shot well with mounted Weavers AND factory ammo, most rifles shot better than the average hunters ability. I worked as an FFL at the time and if a customer had a Weaver scope , I new that my "sight in" woes were minimized.

The old Weavers don't have "good clear glass".

The glass on those old junk weavers is un-coated. They glare in daylight.

Just because a scopes adjustment clicks does not mean it moves correctly.

Rusty old junk.
