Guys I want to get a new rifle and torn between a bolt rifle or a Tc Prohunter.
If I go with bolt action it will probably be a Remington 700 SPS Varmint in .243
I also found a like new Prohunter for $600 in 7mm Rem Mag.
I'm sure the 700 will shoot but not sure about the Encore. You read some shoot under an inch and others don't.
Thanks for any advice.

My vote would be for the Remington. However I would say that you can improve accuracy in any rifle if you load your own ammo. That may help with the other selection. Either way good selections and good calibers. Good luck.

I personally shoot the t/c pro-hunter. I have read several of the threads here that are not all the hip on this rifle. Mine is a shooter. The .300 win mag barrel shot a 5 round group to a hair under 1 5/8" at 200 yards a couple weeks ago with factory ammo. Using Hornady custom SST IB 180 grain. I will warn you though these things are as addictive to me as Russian Mosins are to some others.

The remington 700 sps. I am not sold on this rifle yet. I have not owned one and I have not fired one. I have checked them out at a couple of shops. I hate the looks but that can be ignored. The bolt on both rifles felt way to sticky like it was running across a small burr in the action. The trigger was horrible. Now both of those things can be fixed by a good gunsmith. I have been more than disapointed in Remington guns as of late so not my first choice.

The last thing the Encore in 7mm rem Mag is a good all around caliber. I think its a little over kill for deer sized game but will certainly do the job. That round will prove to be ample for elk, black bear and similar sized game where the .243 will prove to be under gunned.

One last comment on the Encore. I have read also that some people say the encore will shoot under a inch and some say they won't. Part of this may be due to getting a barrel or what not that is a little off. I haven't seen or heard of one that shot worse than a new winchester model 70:D. The biggest diffrence that I see is that of lock time. Most bolt guns except for older military style bolt rifles have very fast lock times. Encores and most break action hammer style have very slow lock times. They do take some time behind the trigger to get used to. If you squeeze the trigger and some time during that squeeze your rifle fires you'll just fine. If you pull the trigger and expect it to go off right then. I will assure you that you won't be pleased.
