I am wondering if it is a model 63?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pistol_Mitralieră_model_1963/1965

I can obtain a full auto version (via collector's license here in Europe) or a semi-auto version (my intention in order to shoot it)

What I do know per the LGS is that it is

- Romanian
- 7,62x39
- chrome lined barrel
- I can have it either full/semi-auto and with/without folding stock.

I am going for a fixed stock, personal preference.

Here it is with fixed stock

The version with folding stock.

What do you guys think? I don't think it is the WASR imported into the US by Century Arms given the default model is a full auto version.

I do not know anything about AKs. I just want one with all wood furniture and fixed stock for cheap fun with surplus ammo here.

There are other models available, e.g ddr east german but it has plastic stock, foregrip.

I understand internally they are the same, bar vz-58 and whilst zastava have 1.5mm receiver instead of normal 1mm they don't have a chrome lined barrel....which is important as nothing hut corrosive ammo will be shot.

I hope it is a good choice as a first ak. I just don't have the time to research like crazy as I normally would.

Certainly looks like a Romanian M63 to me. I build a handful of rifles out of parts kits form M63s, and I think it would be a fine first AK. The fixed stock is definitely the better choice, IMO.
