Rifle-Mounted Grenade Launchers

I recently shot a Penn Arms 40mm grenade launcher and got to wondering if things such as the GP-30 or M203 are available through the tax stamp process as well.

My first guess would be that they just aren't produced/imported with the intention of a civilian with a tax stamp buying one, but it sure would be fun.

After looking around on 40mm.com I found that a Miami-based company produces something akin to the M203 but it isn't apparent how to buy one or how much they are.

Any info?

I know that either anvil arms or spikes tactical makes a 25mm smoke/flare launcher but as far as the m203 goes I have no ideeuhr.

Have you considered a 37mm launcher? Don't legally count as firearms, often run under 300 bucks, and look very much like 40mm launchers.

Flares, smoke, and several "visual effect" munitions are available. For social purposes work, you will need to register it as a DD to make the more dangerous variety of cartridges for it.

It's easy to come by the shells, as well, and they tend to cost only a dollar or two apiece. Handloading them is something I've never tried, but I have been reassured its as simple as can be.

May be something to look in to.

As mentioned above, Spike's Tactical makes 37mm launchers, either in underslung 203-style or attached to a FAL stock for an vaguely M79-ish vibe. Can be used with your basic flare and smoke 37mm shells. Not as cool as a genuine blooper, but at $299 it's a bare fraction of the price of the NFA item.

Note that the 37mm versions are smoothbores to escape Destructive Device status. They aren't particularly accurate, and most ammo you can find for them is just a flare round. At least you can get chalk rounds easily for the real deal.

seen them at gunshows here in AZ. dont know bout the rest of the states. never tried one. personaly i want an M-79 with that .22lr shell. back comed off so you can load 50 rounds of .22lr in a modified 40mm case.

Real deal is also compatible with milspec goodies. An alternative is to buy a bunch of these:

The 40mm "beehive"-esque rounds you're thinking of fire 18 rounds of .22LR through an adaptor, so not quite 50. Further, there have been some pressure issues with the 18rd models, so the 9rd models are the preferred choice, last I heard. .22LR isn't a high pressure round, but apparently 18x adds up...

I also have the Bloom Automatic rifle grenades (better price than other sites), and they're pretty cool. I was getting just over 75yds with parade blanks through a 20" AR-15. I'd imagine that with proper grenade-launching blanks and a FAL with the gas system shut-off you'd get some impressive range, or even a Yugo SKS with gas cut-off. I added a $30 "M16 quadrant sight" to my AR for $30 from Sarco, which added to the experience. For $10 a "grenade" and 15c a launching round, really worth trying out so far as "hip pocket artillery" goes. I've got a full review posted somewhere here on THR from last year.
