Greetings,

I am new to logn range shooting and am curious as to how rifle scopes function.

In particular, what happens to the optics inside a scope when one click adjusts the knobs located at the midsection of the scope barrel?

Is there a good website that explains how a scope works?

One look at an old Unertl and you'd instantly understand. On those, the adjustment was on the outside instead of the inside. I just find a good picture of one.

This explanation is crude but think of it like this.

For elevation, picture the lens perched on top of a spring with the elevation knob resting on top of the lense. If you turn the knob counter clockwise you're making room which allows the spring to uncompress and push the lens/reticle upward. If you turn the knob clockwise and screw it in, you're pushing down on the lens and compressing the spring which is keeping the lens place. Windage would be the same, except on the other axis.
