I grew up hunting, but in my part of the country most shots are taken from 25yards to 75 yards and maybe once in a while out to a hundred yards, anything beyond that is very rare. So I never needed a scope and I never really bothered to learn all that much about them, but now I would like to start learning.

What I do know is you get what you pay for, I know the good companies Leupold, Zeiss, Swarovski ect.. I am guessing that Nikon is a good company(I like their camera lens). What I am after, is there a web sight or forum for some good general info, or any good books on the subject, like scopes 101 for dummies?

Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

Scopes only let you see the target better so you can place the shot more accurately. They don't improve the accuracy of a rifle that isn't accurate already.
For a guy like yourself, they take some getting used to. Mostly due to the field of view. That'd be how much area you can see through the scope. However, you'll have just one thing to focus on instead of trying to put the front blade on the target while keeping in the rear sight. You just put the cross hairs on the target, after sighting in, and shoot.
I'd suggest, for your normal shooting distances, you look into a low magnification scope and lots of range time. The make doesn't really matter. Good optics are good optics.
"...their camera lens..." Yep. Japanese optics are good. Nikons aren't exactly cheap though.
