Okay I need (want really) a new rifle. Here are my qualifications for the rifle: It must be of carbine length (20 inch barrel), capable of reasonable rate of fire without removing the rifle from the shoulder or loseing the sight picture to chamber the next round.
It must be able to take deer out to 150yds, it must also be capable to be used as a defensive carbine, with a capacity of six round or more. It must have the ability to have a scope mounted to it. It must be easy to operate requiring minimal training for my wife or daughters to use it. Amunition must be inexpensive and available just about anywhere. It must be capable of service grade or practical hunting accuracy. Also I live in the People Republic of New Jersey, ar's, ak's and other serious military looking rifles are out of the question. (I don't make the reality, I just have to live in it) My wife authorized the release of some funds, which is amazing and not likely to happen again very soon.
Thanks for any help.;) :D

A new Norinco SKS will fit the description. Less than $200. Auctionarms.com or gunbroker.com.
Get one of the Romanian SKS at KYImports.com if you like a European made. Or from Interordnance.com for a Yugo SKS for $140.

Another vote for the Mod 94. I'd consider getting it in either 30-30 or .44 mag. Although 150 yards might be pushing it a bit for .44.
