I've been in search of a proper container for my rifles over the past years, all of which seem to be on the long side. My current long gun is very long indeed--a Finnish Tikka M-91. My solution for the moment was to take a black powder rifle sheath like this one:

The leather as is was far from waterproof, so I covered with birchwood-casey wax and rubbed it in. The color became a lot darker, but I must say it's certainly waterproof now. The rifle stays encased with waxiness when inside, and the stock seems to like it.
