Okay I bought this thing about a year ago (Marlin 1894c), and it continues
to amaze me. Today I took it with me to the range with 2 boxes of
magtech 158gr sjsp. This time I brought a 6" ram swinger target.
I chronied the Magtech out at 1950 fps 10 ft from the muzzle
(BC was .170). I fired ten rounds at 25yards to zero at that range,
and for fouling. That gives me a zero at 110 yds, maximun PBR
at 122 yards, and only 3 inches low at 150yds. Set targets at 25yds,
100yds, 150yds, and just for Sh*ts, and gigles the ram at 200yds
(used the bottom of the stock front sight blade to align).

From a rest groups at 25yds ran around .25 inches( difficult to tell mostly one hole groups) , at 100ys average group size ran 3 inches, at 150yds 4 groups all between 3.5-4. inches. The ram at 200yds I hit 48 times out of 50 rounds.

I know...I know... Not tack driving accuracy huh.....

I'm pretty proud of it though....not too bad for iron sights though....

That right no scope just a williams 5D with a .93 twilight aperture.
Some of the guys saw me shooting the ram and came down to see me
were blown away by the fact that I didn't have a scope. :what:

The best 519.00 I ever spent. :D :D :D :D

2 1/2 to 3 MOA with a ghost ring from a stock carbine is pretty darn good, even from the bench.

Were you shooting 38s or 357s. I took mine out last weekend, but was there to zero in another gun. First time that I took my 1894c to the range and I was quite impressed. From the stand up position and with open sights I got quite a few dings off the plates at about 125 yds. I don't know if I want to scope it since I like the old look and won't be using it for anything further than 50 yards while varmint hunting..... SweeT gun.....

mmrev

I was using Mag-tech 158gr sjsp Magnums, fired from a rest off the bench
using the stock front sight and the williams peep (keeps the old look).
For the 200 yds I aimed by looking thru the peep, and placing the bottom
of the front sight post over the target.

:D

My 1981 vintage 1894c (pre-safety) shoots about like yours, grfmj.
The Marlin .357's seem to prefer jacketed 158's. I've tried other bullet weights and cast slugs in mine (making proper allowance for the Micro-groove barrel) and settled on a close-to- max load with 2400 powder and the 158gr Hornady bullet, for the standard load in my gun. There's lots of performance in that little carbine with good stout loads. This is one of those guns that make me say 'Every one should have one."

Magtech

I've got a Rossi 92 in .357, and the Magtech SJSP is the only ammo that goes through it flawlessly. I love my LA, but I'm also really impressed with that ammo, and their offerings are increasing all the time.
