Concealed weapons permits spark debate in Riverside County

An effort by the Riverside County Board of Supervisors to make it easier for residents to carry concealed firearms isn't likely to change policy, the Sheriff's Department said.

In a 3-1 vote in November, supervisors passed a resolution asking the sheriff to consider applications for permits based solely on "personal defense."

Supervisor Jeff Stone, author of the resolution, pegged the issue to the potential release of thousands of California inmates as part of a plan to meet a federal mandate to reduce the state's prison population.

There's more. Here's the link:

Good on California!

I hate to say it but California has gotten itself into this mess.

The legislators hate guns, ammo, shooting ranges and the ability of individuals to defend themselves and other innocent people.

They have created a welfare state and are broke because of it. Now they want to release the very people whom they say are "in prison and don't have access to the public so the public doesn't need to be able to defend themseves".

The Republic of Kalifonication needs to un-elect the present communist/socialist gov't and elect new, fresh thinkers.

P.S. I thought the Sheriff worked for the County Board of Supervisors !!!

I hope they go for it. I spent much of my childhood in CA... and watched the State deteriorate over the years. Nowadays, I hate even going there to visit my father. I feel like I am entering a foreign country... a commie country. I guess the rabid CA lib's are finally reaping what they have sown.

The sad part is that much of CA has fled here to UT in a mass exodus, and they forgot to leave behind the values that wrecked CA in the first place. I call Salt Lake City "New San Francisco" now.

The real irony is the Governator, who recently signed the ammo registration bill into law.

Here's a guy who approves stupid anti-gun legislation yet his career is mostly based on films that feature guns and violence.

Can you say hypocrisy..?

The legislators only do it because it gets them elected and keeps them in office. It starts with the people who elect them.

I thought California was run by a Republican? Everyone seems to be implying that they are socialists. Didn't another famous governor of theirs restrict the rights of the citizens because he was a racist? Of course I am talking about that racist piece of Republican trash, Ronald Reagan. They really need change there but they keep electing Republican governors who are ranting racist and that don't respect the Bill of Rights.

Riverside is lame town. The police department is notorius for its racism. I know of a guy I went to school with who was disaplined for holding down a person's head underwater at a park--basically punking a homeless person. Another time an off duty officer called my friend's wife a "******". He told us he was an off duty officer. A few years back 3 or 4 officers shot a girl sleeping in her car. Yeah, in Riverside you need to protect yourself from the police. Oh, wait I haven't even mentioned all the gangs.
