rl 19 and 30-06?

im fairly new to reloading. i only have one manual ( hornady 8th edition). my question is i want to use rl 19 with a 165gr gmx bullet and my book doesnt have the data for that powder with that bullet, but it has rl 19 with 180gr bullets and higher. is there a reason for that? if any of you have a manual that gives the min and max load for this powder with these bullets it would be a great help.

IMHO H4350 is the best in 165gr, but I LOVE RL19 in 150gr, 3,000fps and cloverleaf accuracy with my Accutips. Both shoot so good I have a hard time deciding which one to hunt with

RL19 is one of my favorite powders for the 30-06 and .270 win too. I'm surprised you can't find data for that 165 gr. bullet? When I get a moment I'll dig up my 06 RL19 data for you. If you do decide to use the 180 gr. bullet data, just bear in mind that since your using a bullet 15 grains lighter that the starting charge needs to be about in the middle for the 180 gr. bullet. If you start too low you might experience some primers backing out of the pocket the result of low pressures.

165 gr. (jacketed ballistic tip)

RX19
Starting grains; 54.5 2464 fps. @ 37,000 psi.
MAX load grains; 60.4 2816 fps. @ 53,300 psi. (compressed powder charge)

I'm not going to say RL-19 isn't a good powder to use, but I will say that I have had better loads result from dropping to RL-22 for the 165gr weights.

When I say better, I am talking about broad based details not just accuracy or velocity. The 22 just seems to be more of a year round steady everything the same load no matter the temp. The 19 has on occasion gotten a bit spiky in some of our summer time heat. The same loads are great at temps under 85'ish degrees or so, but get up in the high 90's and the groups spread and primers start to iron out.

Just thought I would toss out as to what experiences I have had with it.

Normally if I can't find data in one of my manuals for a combo I want to use I go to the websites of the powder and/or bullet manufacturers. One or both of them will usually have data for the combo I intend to use.

I've had excellent results with RL19 and 150's but use IMR4350 for 165's and 180's. I consider IMR4350 the "go to" powder for the 06.

thanks guys, i tried to look at the companies web page and it didnt list any thing about what i was looking for. i even emailed there tech department with no response.

the reason for wanting to use rl19 is that i already have the powder for my 300wsm. ive got a really good load for that round. but i might have to try some of the powders mentioned here. im going to start trying develope a load for my sons christmas present. one that he can shoot without going over his thresh hold. but he can handle three rounds from my 300 so it shouldnt be a big problem.

Try 61.5gr RL 19 and a 150gr Accutip/SST (work up from 57.5gr) If your 06 is anything like mine I think you and your son will be VERY impressed with the results Published load streight from Nosler #6 it was the most accurate load in their 06 too. Near 3000fps load so it is a little stout but if he can handle 300WSM it should be no problem.
