ROA point of impact

Ok, I'm a pretty good shot. I expect most of us here are. Most things people are passionate about they become good at. Make no mistake I love my ROA and shooting off hand I can put 6 shots into a 6 inch group at 25 yards all day long.

So what's the problem? The problem is how is it possible that I have loaded this gun with 25, 30, 35 and 40 grains of Triple7, APP and Pyrodex (both powder and 30gr pellets) topped with 150gr BigLube, 210gr BigLube, 190gr Buffalo and 220gr Lee 456-220-1R bullets. While some combinations are a bit more accurate than others...they ALL shoot at the same point of impact at 25 yards.

It doesn't matter what I load. I pick up the gun, put the fixed sights on the target, pull the trigger and a hole appears more or less in the center of the target. The only way I know one load from another is the difference in recoil or smoke. It borders on freakin' spooky.

Some guns are like that. I'm wondering if there's something about 2.5" guns. I had a 2.3" SP101 that hit POA with everything from a .38 WC to a .357 180 grain XTP over 13.8 grains AA#9. Uncanny, it was. My 3" Taurus 66 shoots just barely higher at 25 with a 158 .38 and barely lower with a 148 WC than a 140 JHP .357. I had a Security Six 4" that shot 3" low and 4" left with .38 of any kind when sighted in for .357. That one was WEIRD. There doesn't really seem to be a rhyme or reason to how any individual revolver shoots various loads. I haven't been able to come up with one over the years, put it that way.

Anyway, consider yourself lucky if your ROA doesn't shoot high. I had a stainless one that shot somewhat high, my current blued one shoots WAY high. I have the rear sights adjusted to the bottom and have learned just to use a modified sight picture. I set the front sight to the bottom of the rear sight's notch and sight the target between the top of the rear sight blade, if that makes sense. Anyway, it works for me. Like you say, don't seem to matter what powder or powder charge I use or round ball or 220 grain conical, shoots to the same POA. And, by damned if it ain't a tack driver, too! I just love that thing.

It's just the weirdest thing. It's a SS 51/2" with fixed sights. It shoots dead nuts on at 25 yards. Not high, not low, nor left nor right. This is the only fixed sight pistol I've ever had that didn't seem to be pre-aimed at the moon or the dirt.

So the thing isn't stock. It's been gunsmithed by Rowdy Yates, action job, forcing cone opened, barrel faced, Treso nipples and blind screw grips. That has nothing to do with the guns seeming guided missile like tendencies but it does make it all better....

I just wish Classicballistx would start making those spare cylinders again or someone would sell me theirs. Several spares would be great and not to mention they don't have that goofy "black powder only" script rolled in. I had Rowdy remove the idiot warning label off the barrel. Now every time I look at the cylinder it seems like it has graffiti scrawled on it. ARGH!

Ruger makes a higher front sight as they were aware of the problem a long time ago and continued to use the lower one.

I don't think he's so much out of business as out production. He's trying to get it going again but I think we all know how hard getting things off the ground is.

In the meantime, I'm sending my stock cylinder to Clement to have it deepened and chamfered.
