Dear Folks who have traveled to the Grand Canyon, AZ residents, indeed anyone who has knowledge on the topic-
Please pardon me asking, but
I am looking for some guidance on carrying legalities in AZ and some specific locales in particular.
I know I could ask the proprietors (see below) directly, but i am trying to keep some relative anonymity first by asking you.
Specifically,
I am planning a trip to drive from TX, through New mexico, and to AZ and arrive at the town of Williams, AZ; (staying at the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel)and from there board the Grand Canyon Railway train for a trip to the South Rim of the Canyon; for an overnight at Maswik Lodge, which i assume is inside the border of the National Park, then back again.
The package is detailed here: http://www.thetrain.com/packages_canyonexpress2night.cfm
So I know i am legal in TX and AZ, in general; I am more concerned about the train ride and entering the Canyon.
Though not federal, would any of you know if the Railway conforms to federal regs and forbids ccw (I assume they do) and/or forbids a weapon in carry-on luggage (seems likely, but who knows..)?? Also, since that train enters GCyn National Park; is it even legal to bring a firearm into the Park in checked baggage?
I know it is illegal to carry a firearm in any Nat'l Park, but can you have one on the grounds: in your car, or in my case, in a hotel room?
The Railway is an independent, non-AMTRAK operated, train and again, i thought I would ask you all first before I email the Railway and take the chance of some crafty person flagging my name for the one-and-only luggage inspection they have ever done.
Also, we then plan to drive down to Flagstaff and use it as a home-base for doing trips to things within an hour or so of Flagstaff. i.e. Crater Park, Sedona perhaps, etc etc
So any info for a person who would carry everywhere if it were up to him (me) that you would share, like places that are cool to visit and allow carry, i would most appreciate!
Thanks in advance for your time!
