Next week, the wife and I are making a road trip to northern NY, to spend a week at a cabin with some friends. I currently reside in Ohio, and have a concealed carry permit. I was considering taking a pistol, but with all the recent laws passed in NY, I'm half tempted to leave a carry gun behind. Can anyone shed some light on the recent changes, or post a link or previous thread on a basic run down of the new laws? The "can's and can'ts" I guess

Opinions are one thing but this could have serious consequences if not correct.
Try google for an answer. You need facts. Involves some home-work but
the right or wrong of it falls on you alone.

The short answer is sort of being a specially privileged person, non-residents cannot even possess a handgun in NY, much less carry it.

You might be able to bring a rifle or a shotgun if you lock it in the trunk and keep the ammo separate. Pistol is no go, forget about shooting black powder pistols too.

If I were going anywhere in NY, which isn't going to happen my guns stay home, NY doesn't honor any other states permits. Even having a gun can cause you problems. FOPA won't help you if NY is your destination.

Take a pump shotgun. It must be kept unloaded for transport.

If you carry an unlicensed pistol into NYS, you will land a felony charge. Only NYS residents can get a license.

Wow, that bad.
Judging from the few replies, I'll just leave the gun behind. I suppose there's restrictions on a can of pepperspary too:cool:

Thanks for the input fellas

An unlicensed handgun in NYS, which yours would be, nets you a minimum one year prison term. And unless it happens to be a small carry gun, they can add on some charges for magazine capacity and more than 7 rounds in the magazine.

Pepper spray is legal in NY, mace is not.

The guys got it right. You can't bring a pistol into NYS unless you are going to a Official sponsored event. NYS really stinks in this case and it recently just got a lot worse.

Agree with shot gun

My Yugo SKS is perfectly legal.
Along with the my plethora of Mosin Nagants.

Take a non-detachable mag semi rifle or a manual rifle, or a pump shotgun.

Oodles of fun!
