Does anyone have any hands on experience with the Robinson M96 Expeditionary rifle?

My local shop has one and I'm mighty tempted to put some money down on it. It's in good condition with the top rail system and comes with an Eotech 551.A65 for $1,150.

I'm thinking this is a good deal but I have no experience with the Robinson M96 so I was hoping those of you who do have experience with it can give me some feedback on it.

I own one. I've posted about it before, look up my username and "M96" for various opinions.

In short, it's a very nice rifle and it's a shame it didn't see more volume. The only real downsides are lack of aftermarket support and uncertain replacement parts.

What you're describing for $1150 is an absolute steal. The few I've seen on auction sites go for $1500+ without an optic.

I've fired one, and am not particularly impressed with it. A bit heavy and uncomfortable, IMO. If I were looking for an eclectic .223, my choice would be a Beretta AR-70/90 or a Daewoo K2.

I got to shoot an XCR a couple years ago. I really liked it.

But they're getting some bad press from this;

The XCR is a great rifle. I love mine. It will eat any ammo you throw at it. I've heard a lot of people say their piston AR's don't cycle wolf or brown bear, but my XCR will cycle it just as well as high quality brassed cased without even having to turn up the gas setting.
That said, I still shoot an AR better. It wouldn't be a difference worth noticing if I were a soldier, but I'm not so it matters to me.
Its a fine product and I'm sure if I had the time and the money I could get the groups better, but I don't, so I'm going back to my AR. However, I will be looking in to their .308 version.

I think you could find a very nice used XCR for around that price or a little more, or even save up a little and get a new one. Its their current focus, and that company has fought to hell and back against rumors, the needed changes stated in that article (I ordered mine during some of those changes and had to wait around 11 weeks for my rifle), and they have built a very fine rifle that I wish got the attention it deserved.

That said, the M96 is a great rifle, but limited parts now. I'd buy it for that price.

Well I suppose if I bought it and decided later that I don't like it I can probably sell it and get back what I paid for it, maybe even keep the Eotech and still get back what I paid for it.

I'm intrigued by this rifle because it is kinda different and something you don't see every day. I certainly wouldn't sell my AR to buy one but it might make interesting addition to my EBR collection.
