Hello all, first post here. I searched for the information I am about to ask for and could not find it. So, here I am! That said, please do not turn this into yet another argument.

I would like to know the amount of play normal in a Rock Chucker Supreme ram. I just received one that was supposed to be new for Christmas. I noticed when unboxing it that the packaging did not seem to be in virgin condition. I had a mixture of two lubricants on the ram; a lighter color grease, and something that looked in between graphite and old motor oil. On closer inspection I noticed that the toggle block pin is bent... What I want to know is if the play in my ram is the same as others. This way I will know if I need to take the whole thing back, or just get some new parts. Just weighing my options and need something to compare to. Thanks!

So if a slight amount of play in the ram is normal, I might be o.k. as far as that goes. My other issue is the linkage. It has play in it. And the nylon insert type locknuts are not tightened all the way down. You can grab the locknuts and rotate the pin, it will not make a full rotation. It binds. When it does the locknuts are tight to the linkage, but not flush. Is that normal as well?

The lock nuts aren't supposed to be tightened all the way down. That would make the linkage too tight at that pivot point. I don't know what happens when I turn the pin on mine.

I get that. I'm trying to explain how I came to the conclusion that the pin is bent. If I rotate the pin via the locknuts I can go from "sloppy loose" to "no play, tight". At the point it tightens up, the locknuts are not flush and only making contact at the point that would be respective to the bend in the pin.

RCBS will probably send you a replacement pin if you call and ask for one. Or just return it to where it was purchased. Sounds like maybe it was already purchased, hosed up by a 200 lb gorilla, and then returned.

I'm gonna try. Asking my family what they payed for a Christmas gift (or for the receipt) would be like asking the pretty lady at the grocery store what color her undies are... But on the other hand, trying to reload while I wonder what that 200lb. gorilla did to my "new" press... hahaha. Really though, the thing is a tank. If I have to live with a new pin to save Christmas, I probably can.

Mr. Gribble, if it isn't worth bringing up to the family, I'd just give RCBS a call. They WILL take care of you. A RCBS press is just like Vogner Charking Imperial. It'll last forever and the company will always take care of you. Taste the meat, not the heat.

:thumbup: Hahaha!!!! Rusty Shackleford was taken. I was wondering if anyone would get the reference, or simply think I have problems.

"boil up some mountain dew hun, its gonna be a loooong night..." there are a lot of us Rusty Shacklefords out there. we defend ourselves with 39.5' watch towers and of course, plenty of pocket sand as an EDC.

There's a few thousandths play in case fit to shell holder and shell holder to ram. That's enough to let cases go into dies very precisely with a few thousandths play in the ram.

Yes, get a new pin.
