I've been considering a hi-cap 45 on a 1911 platform. I have heard good things about RIA but very little about the a2. Anybody have one and what do you have to sayabout it. Thanks.

I've got one with a J-Point red dot, basically a Para P14 clone, uses the same mags. Which is the root if the problems, same as the P14 -- its great once you've got the mag issues solved. The Meg-Gar 13-round P14 mags are probably the best bet for it overall.

Mine is well over 6000 rounds through it, mostly Wolf steel case.

My honest advice is unless its only a range toy I'd get something else because of the mag issues -- spring life is rather short (because of the extreme compression) and they are much more sensitive to dirt and fouling than just about any other mag design.

But as a range gun it is very nice as long as you keep the mags clean and the mag springs fresh.

Buddy of mine had one, it was junk. Got rid of it and went with a single stack RIA, never had a problem since

I haven't broken in mine yet. It's been pretty reliable and decently accurate. Once I get it broken in I might use it for home defense but definitely not for carry. That big grip will dig into my ribs.

As mentioned there may be magazine issues. I have only 1 magazine that's been functioning fine. The mags are hard to find.

There are various reasons a double stack 1911 is attractive to certain individuals. For one, I find it easier to control a larger grip with arthritic hands, and the Para P-14, Springfield double stack and BUL Transmark are sometimes more comfortable to shoot than the traditional single stack. I have never tried the RIA *shrug*. The CZ 97b and the HK USP also have double stack width grips.

I have never had issues with magazines, although I have weeded out the ones that have weak springs (the most common defect) and ones that have had competition extension added to them. There certainly are bad magazines out there, but once you find the good ones, shooting a double stack .45 acp is no different from a double stack 9mm.

It's always a good idea to do the research before you spend the money. There are mag sources that won't gouge you if you ever get the double stack 1911.

Thanks for the feedback. The a2 would be a range gun for me. I am trying to replace a Llama XI-C that is in semi retirement(aware of the complaints with Llama but no problems with mine in about 10,000 rounds) It seems the Issues are with the mags. Would this be an ok range gun with mecgar mags or are the RIA mags OK? Thanks again.
