I have wanted a double stack 1911 in 9mm for a few years now and I saw this Rock Island in a local shop for just North of $600. Its in 22 TCM but is comes with a 9mm barrel and recoil spring. I could care less about the 22 TCM but the 9mm set up is great.

I was just curious as if any one has bought one of these and how they like it.

I've read pretty good reviews on it. I'm actually really interested in the .22 TCM round, I've heard its a blast to shoot, and gives off a pretty impressive fireball!

I had one for a while. I loved the TCM round, giant fireballs and plenty of bark. A range supervisor actually thought I was shooting an AR-15 in the pistol berm before he looked. If you want to shoot 9mm, you'll more than likely have to swap out the extractor as well (I had mixed results with the 22 TCM extractor running 9mm). Mine was also pretty picky about feeding 9mm and only really like 147 grain ammo, but a little fluff and buff on the feedramp and different springs would probably have solved that. I ended up trading it to fund a 460XVR I just had to have, but it was a solid pistol.

I got one last week because I was interested in the 22 TCM.

It didn't come with the 9mm barrel but I'm not interested shooting 9mm in it.

IMO Rock Island's quality control is slightly below average but not too bad.

The 22 TCM is impressive. So much that I ordered a thousand bucks worth of ammo (2,000 rounds), a thousand bullets and reloading dies.

RI is supposed to have a rifle for the 22 TCM but can't get it yet.
I hope the round catches on and other guns are made for it.

I like mine, you'll probably want the VZ grips and perhaps a nicer MSH.

You'll end up making bulk TCM ammo orders if you want to shoot it in any quantity, it isn't going to be at WM or your LGS any time soon.

My TCM runs the cheapest 9x19 ammo happily, and TCM ammo flawlessly

Sweet gun M2 Carbine!

And thanks for the info about the 9mm loads Dave. I am going to have to try and find one of these guns.

Just for interest I shot some steel with the22 TCM.

Front of a 30 cal ammo box and door hinge. I didn't think to put the hinge in front of the box when I shot it.

Back of the box.

Back of hinge. Almost a perfect hole and much larger than the bullet diameter.

3/8 inch fairly hard steel.

You're welcome!
Being able to run the gun with the cheapest junkiest steelcase 9x19 loads is a really nice perk, considering the price of TCM ammo.

that's awesome george. how is the trigger?
Thanks for the compliments, I'll be shooting it for the first time next week and I'll report back. I was lucky to find this one and aside from the other one next to it at my LGS it's the only one I've ever seen, hell I can't even find another one for sale on the internet.

I've got one of the first Armscor (RIA's supplier) 1911-A2 "widebody" 9mm 1911 pistols, it was a Shot Show demo, and 15K+ rounds later I still love it. Have done nothing to it but replace the recoil spring and firing pin spring a couple of times. But I don't shoot it much since getting my RIA 9mm Tactical single stack which is close to catching up in round count.

Well worth searching for if you want a 17 or 18 round 9mm 1911 (They take the Para P18 mags, but the Mec-Gar 17 round are usually less expensive and easier to find).
