RIA 1911's have been very well received. They have a good reputation for price/performance/value. Their customer service has consistently received outstanding marks.

Taurus 1911's took some hits early in their production when the customer service end was not ready to handle the new pistol. Reports seem to indicate they have rectified the problem, but I don't think their customer service has as good a reputation as RIA.

About 95% of owners are happy with them. I like mine. Not the fit and finish of a more deluxe make but the price reflects this fact.

Thats a nice looking 1911, there, SaxonPig.

Thanks for the input guys.. I'm pretty set on a Taurus 1911, but hell with money the way it is, I may very well look into these.

Rock Islands are fine pistols, nothing wrong with 'em. Check out the Tactical models, they're a little more custom.

I loved my RIA CS Tactical .45ACP. I wish I hadn't traded it, but I couldn't pass on the deal. I plan to get a replacement as soon as possible.

I like mine just fine. It feeds 185gr and 200gr SWC without issue. My Kimber will choke on SWC every now and then. The Kimber is slightly more accurate but I think this has more to do with the Kimber's crisper trigger.
I paid less than $300 for mine new.

I have 2 RIA and think they're great. Everyone I know that has one likes it. If you do have an issue, I've heard nothing but good from their CS though I haven't needed it. I'd pick RIA over Taurus anyday.

Nothing the matter with them. They have been giving good service.

So has the Taurus, and if you value the bells and whistles that Taurus offers, the small amount of extra money is well spent.

I looked hard at Taurus before buying an RIA Tactical. I must admit to choosing the RIA because I did't like the billboard treatment the Taurus had. The RIA had some teething issues early on. It's been fine for the last two or three years. Mine is strictly a fun/range gun. The Tactical model is the way to go, mine has a fantastic trigger. Good value for the money. I'd like one in 9mm.

The RIA MAP1 and MAPP1 pistols are manufactured for Tanfoglio, and they're the original Witness (before the Witness went to "one frame size fits all calibers" in 2008). These are sold as the Tanfoglio Force in the rest of the world, and are RIA branded here in the USA.

Again, they're quality pistols.

I've had my RIA 1911 compact for over two years now and I think it's a fine buy at such a low price.

I love my RIA 4". If you're after the weight savings of Aluminum go Taurus, if not the bells and whistles can be had on the RIA's for the same money and Armscor has better CS then Taurus from what I hear.

As for the Nickle and 2 tones not being imported that is odd as 2 months ago when I bought my 4" those were the only 2 finishes readily available. I had to call every shop in the area to find someone who had the Parkerized finish or could order it.

If you're after the weight savings of Aluminum go Taurus

 You do know that Taurus is offered in all steel as well as the alloy frame versions ? And that the feature count of the Taurus is higher than the RIA ?

I've absolutely nothing bad to say about the RIA guns, but based on customer satisfaction, the flawless function or our range rental 1911 Taurus, the fact that our shops manager and gunsmith both carry the Taurus(and are achieveing great service from them), gives some credibility to the fact that nothing is the matter with Taurus 1911's.

Buy either, or whatever else you like, but base it on fact, and not the concept that this is what I own, so therefore , this is better, and all else is crap.

If I had a nickel RIA pistol I would treat it very careful, do not use Hopp's #9 on the finish or any other product that has ammonia, it will lift the finish off, next thing I would is buy the rubber wrap around grips with the finger grooves, Hogue, the finish seems to wear off on the font strap fairly easy, from what I have read. be sure you keep the out side of the pistol wiped with a oil, don't put it away dirty. Thats just me.and it is MHO.

go with the RIA. They build them with old Colt machinery in the Philippines. So you're getting a great gun at a great price.
