If you own a Rock River AR, in particular, the Entry Tactical, what do you think of your rifle. Like everytime that I do research before buying a firearm, I get a crapload of conflicting viewpoints. Some say that the rifles are superior and they would not trade them for any other rifle. Others contest that saying that they are put together with locktite and that they would rather have another rifle. So, I want to know from actual owners how your experience has been with your RRA AR and whether you recommend I pursue the Entry Tactical. I just don't want to make a purchase that I might regret after it is too late. Thanks.

I bought an RRA lower and an RRA upper receiver. It's my first AR, but I love it. I've got several hundred rounds through it and no problems so far. Colt has the name, and I'm all for that if that's what you want, but my RRA is a quality weapon.

RRA makes good rifles. They do a few things I am not crazy about, but if you just want to buy a rifle off the shelf, they make a good one that will work damn well and they give very good CS.

I've only had my NM RRA AR for a few weeks and I'm still looking for a bullet and load combination that shoots best in the rifle.

I wouldn't say the RRA puts my Colt and Bushmaster AR to shame, but the RRA does have them beat in quality and accuracy. Definitely the best quality I've seen in a AR.

I was at the local gun store today and the manager said he told his supplier to send him ANY RRA rifles they have.
Yesterday, my friend's millionaire daughter (no joke) bought the only one in the store. A short heavy barrel flat top.

Mine.:)

I have only about 2000 rds through my RRA CAR 15, but love it. I get excited while driving to the range everytime I bring it. Its an absolute blast to shoot, accurate, and I cant imagine better quality.

I may be confused

But I hear nothing but good things about their AR's, and bad things about their 1911's. What gives?

I have a little over 1,000 rounds through my Elite A4. I am very pleased with the Elite's fit & finish, and have had zero problems with it. The upper and lower fit together with no play whatsoever. It's a great gun for the money.

FYI, though, Rock River uses a non mil-spec buffer tube, so a lot of stocks will not fit it without changing out the buffer tube. I am perfectly happy with the stock I have, so that's not an issue with me.

Here's mine:

Are you confusing Rock River Arms with Rock Island Armory? RIA makes 1911s that some people really, really hate.

And my RRA AR has been flawless, with excellent fit and finsih.

You hit the nail on the head...

I was confusing the two. Now back to your regularly scheduled thread.

RRA does make 1911s that, based on the few reviews I've seen, are supposed to be pretty good.

According to info posted in another thread, the guys who started RRA were previously armorers for Springfield and Les Baer.

i have two, and another couple in the family. one is national match, the other tactically flavored. just shy of 10,000 rounds between the two of them. no complaints at all.

M2, have you tried 68gr OTM Black Hills?

I've found that load to be excellent in all of my AR's.

A friend gave me a couple boxes of Black Hills 55gr FMJ and 68gr JSP.

I shot the FMJ from a Kel Tec PLR .223 pistol and got very good 95 yard groups from that 9 inch barrel.

But Tuesday I shot the Black Hills 68gr JPS in the RRA and it shot terrible.
Another 68 grain Hornady JBTHP load also shot terrible. I'm beginning to think that rifle doesn't like the heavier bullet because at the same time the rifle shot this group with my old stand by 52gr Sierra BTHP match bullets.

The white bullseye is 2 inches. I had a good group going until I threw that one to the left.

Rock River is THE top quality in the factory-built AR line. After my years of experience with my Colt and other makes, I bought a Rock River varminter flat-top upper and 2-stage match trigger for my Colt Car-15, and have mounted a Harris bipod and Leupold variable scope. Couldn't be happier.:D

I have an RRA lower with an RRA match trigger which is my main service rifle match gun and I can say noting but good about it. Never had a problem with it. Love the trigger. Its not adjustable so it never goes out of adjustment. But really, for a match gun, the lower is kind of insignificant. Your upper is the key.

RRA makes fine products. I've had a bit of trouble w/ customer service, but most don't.

I've got a RRA National Match A4, and I love it.

The upper/lower fit is so tight that I use a rubber mallet to knock the pin in. =)

It is extremely accurate with good ammo. Pretty bad with 62 gr XM855. Stupid steel penetrators.

I've got the "silly version" - no flashhider, no lug.

BrainOnSigs, which barrel length you have there, 20"? I already have an RRA carbine, but was thinking about getting one of the varmint uppers to slap on it. How is the balance with the lighter collapsible stock?

Back to the original thread, my RRA AR has been great.

I have a RRA middy that has been an absolute joy to own & shoot. I wouldn't hesitate in getting another - if I can justify a need & can find someone to ship one into CA :banghead:

The rifle: RRA Varmint upper with a 20" bull barrel in a 1:8 twist mated with a spare lower from a RRA Elite CAR. I have a MagPul CTR-N stock on order. Many people think putting a collapsable stock on a precision rifles is nuts. I do subscribe the old adage "build the rifle around the shooter, not the shooter around the rifle".

1st reason: I go on several prairie dog shoots a year. My main rifle is a Cooper Montana Varminter bolt action rifle with a AAA Claro walnut stock. We shoot mostly on private ranches using rests from the top of a truck. This year we plan on spending one or two days hiking off of my friend's property onto public shooting land. We will climb fences, etc to get where we need to go. I prefer not to bang up my $2500 Cooper rig so I picked up this upper. I will hump this RRA rig around a little bit so I prefer not having a long A2 stock on it. A collapsable stock in the lowest postion will make it a little more compact for climbing and such.

2nd reason: I know that my wife and 8 year old son are going to want to shoot it also. The LOP on most fixed stocks are too long for them to get comfortable.

3rd reason: Using the CTR-N is my 3rd reason.....I don't want to have to remove the existing buffer tube. It took an act of God on my last attempt to swap out to a mil-spec tube on a RRA.

I think the MagPul CTR-N, which I hear is rock solid without the zero rattle/looseness inherent to many collapsable stock, will work well for all my needs on this rifle.
