Well, the 30 marijuana plants sounds more like distribution than personal use to me. If you break the law what do you expect?? Their whole argument was that they should not have been searched. I totally disagree. Also, if someone on the run from the law was pointing a scoped rifle at you or your friends what would you do??

The only difference between the Welches and most of us is that Big Brother got a hard on for them and decided to lock them up. All of us are criminals.
When the government passes enough laws sooner or later everyone is a criminal, you can't go about your daily life without violating some law at some level anymore. These folks were just the target du jour of the "War on Drugs"
that is the governments cover for the "war on freedom".

I did find it ironic that "Poppa Welch" wanted to talk to the FBI considering the track record that Illustrious (sic) agency has in dealing with the rights of citizens, especially those holed up in their homes.

Murder, pure and simple. And they will jail these people to silence them. Why didn't this story make the news? Shot for growing marijuana? Or possesion of a fully automatic AR? Or wAs he shot for resisting arrest? This stinks of Gestapo, Stalins Utopia, and we had better stop accepting these incidents as "a criminals just deserts". It could happen to you. Or me.

sad case but I'm not sure i wanna join their fight
30 plants are a business and sounds like they were not too slick if they let that many folks know what they had at the house lesson to be learned here. And like it or not the person most responsible for families troubles is the pot growing son. and unless mom and dad didn't know what he was doing shame on them too.
i do agree to the fact that jail house snitches lie has he been prosecuted for it? his "deal " set aside? it should be. make it a reality that those who lie get automatic max sentence for crime they dealt on plus perjury beef would knock a lot of it out

So the guy living at their ranch was dealing in meth and stolen guns and they are surprised the law came down on them also? The son said he knew some of his guns were illegal. Sorry, if you are going to own illegal guns and grow marijuana in quantity, you have to be prepared to handle the consequences. They weren't.

If I look up and see a guy bearing his scoped rifle down on me, I would likely feel threatened. It wouldn't matter if his intend was simply to use the scope.

Also, if they can just pulled over, all those people would still be alive. They led the police on a chase then holed up in their house. Now they are surprised that bad things happened.

After all this, now they cry about the Constitution and such. I'm not buying it.

well said mechag94

they knew the kid has a warrant and chose to run
and then made a series of even stupider decisions that culminated in something that teteered on suicide by cop. heck the stupidity started by letting junior grow dope in the crawl space. and apparantly its genetic no one makes good decisions or is willing to accept responsiblity

What I thought was interesting about this story is that it's written in an almost sympathetic tone, which is highly unusual for a story that involves large numbers of guns, especially if some of them were actually fully-automatic.

Yes, some of these people don't seem like the brightest bulbs on the marquee. It always amazes me that anyone thinks they're going to come out on anything but the losing end in a gun battle with the cops. Whatever sentence Welch Jr. could have received for his little pot farm and guns was certainly not worth Welch Sr.'s losing his life over!
