This thread started with 1911Tuners thread of 'Ramp and Throat Job #2'

The comments are there if anyone wants go go back and read them. Tuner's threads are good stuff. No matter the topic.

I had recently bought a '70 Series LW Commander' that had been 'coated' for a price that was well within reason.

Unfortunately, the 'moly-coated' LW Commander simply would not chamber the first two rounds of a 7 round magazine from slide lock.

From what I'd been able to figure, the 'moly coat' prep included a trip to the sand-blast cabinet. I figured that I now had a expensive paperweight or a 5 shot LW Commander with questionable reliability issues.

After wearing out at least two 'crying towels' and singing the 'poor, pittifuul me' chorus, I rec'd a brief msg from a gent that said briefly, 'I can help' and gave a contact number.

That gent was Chuck Rogers of Rogers Precision.

We spoke via keybard and voice.

The 5 shotLW Commander was sent to Chuck Rogers. Mr. Rogers had this to offer...

'Yep, the sand-blast didn't help the problem. The 'moly coat' was kinda-sorta a 'pebble' finish. That wasn't helpful either.' Those aren't his exact words, but its the best that I can remember.

The top rounds would hit the feed ramp and stop..'dead'. Different ammunition including GI Ball (WCC '72) and magazines made no difference.

What the problem was is just plan, flat, dumb and consisted of aftermarket solutions to a factory problem.

The two-piece feed ranp from Colt was mis-cut...Attempts by previous owner(s) to correct the problem made it worse.

Chuck fixed it.

The insert was about 125.00. He also changed the sights to a combination that worked a bit better for old eyes.

Folks, if you have an aluminum frame Commader that has been 'tinkered with, polished, coated' or whatever adjectives a seller might have used to facilitate the sale, and it just flat don't work, I'd talk with Mr. Rogers at Rogers Precision.

I don't have a way to post photos.

It works.

ps.,

If you'd care to talk about this via pm's, I'd be glad to do that.

Yep.

He did a couple of other things for me as well. The sights are now visible in low light w/o my reading glasses. The barrel busing was replaced, barrel OD reduced a bit and the pistol was refinished. There is a new firing pin stop in place also.

The mainest thing though, is that its reliable. It even sounds good going into battery.:D
