Romanian 22LR trainers

I haven't seen any of them for sale in the last few months, but if you can find one for less than $80.00 OTD you are still buying a heck of a rifle. I don't own one myself, (I've got more .22's than I know what to do with) but I have several friends who do. They are worth every bit of 100 bucks, maybe quite a bit more.

Know now that the scope rings can be hard to find, if you intend to scope it.

They are solid shooters that will outlast you.

Bought one for my son, and liked it so much I got another for me. I dunno who has 'em right now. I bought mine from local stores.

There is a set of commercial rings that will fit, but I don't remember which. A Millet see through set, IIRC. I'll bet you could find it with a search here or at rimfire central.

I had two. Very weak extraction, but pretty accurate (as accurate as any bolt action from Wally World). These are not match-grade rifles, so don't expect super-tiny groups, but they are well worth $80 OTD methinks.

Walk into the pawnshops in your area. If they have one, take a look. If you think it's in good shape, offer between $70-95 (You can go less if you feel lucky. ;) )
Mine was tagged at $100. Offered the pawn $85 cash and took it home a few minutes later. Excelent training rifle.

My brother has had one for several years. He scrounged for several months before he found a mag for the thing and the extraction, yes, is kind of a sometimes proposition for his as well.

However, for the sixty some-odd dollars he paid for it and the fifteen for the mag, he's happy enough.

Rabbit.

The only one that has them now is Hunters Lodge. You can download their latest full page ad that was in the latest issue of Shotgun News from here http://www.hunterslodge.com/FullPage.htm

But notice the underlined "AS IS, NON-RETURNABLE FOR ANY REASON" and "STRICKLY AS IS" in the Romanian 22 rifle ad.
When you see the above underlined in bold letters in a ad for a firearm the red flags should go up,warning bells should sound, and you should back away slowly with one hand on your wallet and the other hand on the grip of your pistol.

The rifles sound like the broken/damaged/defective rifles in such bad shape that the importer couldn't sell them when they sorted through all the training rifles they imported from Romania. Also the defective rifles returned to the importer by wholesalers and gun shops.

$79 for the rifle and $15 for the mags? :what: Man these things have gotten expensive. Just a couple years ago, I picked up one for $49 at a local gunshow and got a bunch of mags for $7 each from Century Arms. I liked the little rifle so much I got the one below a few months later as a ultra low cost winter project.

This one is free floated and bedded. I relieved the barrel channel with sandpaper wrapped around a deep socket, raised the action a bit with shims made from small washers, bedded with Brownells Acroglass, and then finished the really nice beach(?) wood with real tung oil applied with scotchbrite pads. I polished the trigger and used the spring from the other rifle that I had accidently broken one leg off. It lightened the pull very nicely. The scope is a $19 Ultralux fixed power 6x I got from CDNN and the rings are Kwick-site's I picked up at the gunshow when I bought it (knowing these had an odd sized rail). The scope bells wouldn't clear the safety lever and rear sight, so I drifted out the rear sight and dremeled down the safety lever about 25% then reblued it with cold blue from Brownells.

It's very consistant. I haven't shot any good ammo in it yet, but with Aguilla subsonics, 5 shots will touch at 50 yards.

Hunter's Lodge has a less than stellar reputation. Unless things have changed stay far away from anything they advertise.
