Lock? NO! Pleeease. =)
I just liked the points he made. I could write them and claim them as my own, but would rather give them front he horses mouth.
Not pushing Ron Paul for president. Not making a political push. Just saying, I liked the points on the 2nd amendment and individual rights.

Quote?

Feel free to quote it if there's actual discussion of gun rights.

Just keep it on-topic and we'll be fine.

Ron Paul basically addresses the issue of collective versus individual rights. He holds the belief that all rights are individual and no rights can be "collective." Also that everyone has equal rights. I.e. you have no more or less a right to self defense than me or anyone else.

Not to get off-topic, I'll just say "I concur." ;)

Yeah. I love the statement that basically "to say that people have no rights unless they belong to a group" is absurd, but also to say "this man has no rights because he is a part of NO group" is also absurd. That rights are for all individuals. They have the choice to accept or deny those rights based on their own individual beliefs.

I appreciate his understanding and candor. I hope the majority of the Supreme Court takes the same view.

Ron Paul supports ALL personal liberties, not just the 2A. He is the only person in congress who follows the constitution word for word as it was written. That means he firmly believes that the people have a right to "keep and bear" arms and that the NFA and GCA of '68 are unconstitutional infringements on that right.

He is also anti-Patriot Act, which jeopardizes and infringes on all rights, including our 2nd amendment rights. Like the instances where owning too many guns gets people put on terrorist watch lists, Stalinist/Leninist communism style.

I think his points are valid on almost all issues but for the sake of avoiding the thread getting locked I won't say whether I like/dislike his candidacy for presidency.

I don't think RP has a chance at all --but I'll vote for him if he's still around when MN has our primary, and then again in November if I get a chance. However he has made a difference already. [here comes the on-topic part] Have you noticed how the other candidates are now making references to the Constitution? It's kind of refreshing, even if they don't mean it.

The first primary hasn't even happened yet and the media is pushing other candidates because they like to report authoritarian abuses. We cannot become complacent and defeatist this early in the game. His stances are very strongly pro-liberty, especially in regards to the 2nd amendment. I know he mentioned something in his interview with Google about how (roughtly quoted) 'I don't think it matters if it's semi-automatic or fully automatic, the current gun laws do nothing but punish the lower class and minorites especially in the cities" He got a lot of money on Sunday, and if we can keep the ball rolling, we may be able to keep America from being destroyed by Hillary or Rudy.

Y'know, Guys, . . .

. . . it's really not that hard to stay in the groove . . .

But for some reason, every time a candidate's name is mentioned, all of his policies, the likelihood of his winning or losing, and the horror of his opponents works its way into the conversation.

I would have been perfectly okay with a detailed debate over his stance on the Second Amendment, specifics on things he's said about gun rights and/or gun control, and his stated and documented position on self defense.

Instead, I get to read -- yet again -- about treatment by the media, the dissembling of other candidates, and the danger to America if one of the other candidates gets the nod.

Really, guys, policy comparison, the fate of the world, and the propensity of politicians to eschew truth are so wide of the topic boundaries that I find myself just shaking my head in wonder that we can't somehow stay with the stuff we can discuss here.

By now you are all familiar with our sister site, APS, and know that politics goes there, not here.

And so, with yet another *sigh*, I gotta pull the plug.

Next time, try a little self discipline.

Really.

'Cuz I get tired of having to lock these things before the actual substance and detail of gun rights/gun control are aired.

*Sigh*
