Rosie O: Don't fear terrorists, they're just moms and dads

You can walk through life believing in the goodness of the world, or walk through afraid of anyone who thinks different than you
How can someone who is anti-gun and is scared of an AK say that with a straight face?

Fearing those who don't share your values... isn't that the liberal manifesto?

I see the constant attacks on Christianity in our political debates as very dangerous for our continued liberty in all areas, and I'm an agnostic. We spend a lot of time here complaining about the current state of europe, and also in our costal elitest areas and they are examples of the kind of society that secularism will bring for us all. Christianity is based upon the concept of free will and the worth of the individual(mostly) and we can work with those values to promote freedom for all. I'm positive that secular progressivism will only lead to one place, and that is an outright socialist police state.

I can see your concern, but i think it's misplaced. America wasn't founded on the principles of secularism, and I haven't heard anyone urging us to follow a secular way of life. What I have heard, though, is condemnation of extremism of any stripe. Yes, there are fewer Christian extremists out there, willing to blow up things and kill people to further their faith. But also, there are fewer Chrisstians in the world as a whole.

I think the world view is: Just as extremist Christians are not indicative of the average follower of Christ, maybe extremist Muslims are not indicative of the average follower of Mohammed. Of all the Muslims I've known personally, I've not known any to be anything other than appalled at the senseless violence of those we call "extremist Muslims". A common thread running through their criticisms is that a true Muslim is chooses non-violent ways to express his positions and effect social change.

These terrorists are a social aberration. I can't think of any other society that uses suicide as a survival mechanism. I think (and this is just my opinion, don't have a coronary, anyone) that our foreign policies are more than just a little to blame for creating situations in third-world countries that cause anti-American attitudes to be birthed and foment. If we weren't so eager to meddle where we aren't wanted, many of these maniacs would have no special reason to hate us to vitriolically.

That's not to say that there wouldn't still be maniacs, or that those maniacs wouldn't still choose us out of a hat to aim their suicides at... but if we could honestly say that we had done nothing to cause that hate, then we could use our might to surgically take out those maniacs without creating a holy war whose main end result has been to create a breeding ground for terrorists that hate us without being maniacs...

I'd prefer if humanity believed in science, reason and logic, but don't know if THAT will ever happen.
And its been Christians that have furthered that belief for the last few centuries.
