Okay guys, help me out here. Rossi 462, new, out the door after tax- $285.00. Major sporting goods store. Possibly my new truck gun. Not a Smith or Ruger- I know that. I’ve read posts saying the barrels on these delaminate. What’s that about???
I’m wanting a reliable revolver so I can take my GP100 inside and not cry if someone steals my truck gun----Thanks for your thoughts.

I've been seriously thinking about picking one up during the store's sale. I think they are good little guns. I know a guy who carries one as his primary CCW.

Just make sure you put at least 100 trouble free rounds through it before you rely on it for self defense. I bought a new Rossi .357 snub in 1997 that has no lock. I cleaned and lubed it before shooting it. The first time at the range I fired 2 cylinders of .357 Remington target stuff for a total of 12 rounds. I was unable to fire the third cylinder the revolver locked up tight. After much effort I was able to open it to unload it but it would not rotate. I sent it in and about 6 weeks later I got it back. I fired 24 rounds of .38 and 12 of .357. but never trusted it after that. It is a safe queen now. I know that this can happen with any revolver but there are several threads about the Rossi's on various gun boards. Just a heads up.

Went to the store today. They have sold all they had in stock. Expecting 3 more in Friday. Got a couple of days for you guys to talk me out of it- or in to it.

I got one a few years ago and I have never had any trouble with mine, granted I've only put a couple of hundred rnds through it, but no problems.

i would not buy one at that price

"I can take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed... I got spare time..."but in the end whatduhya have?
Add a 80 bucks and you got a S&W 642- which is a nice packin gun. or if all you want is a piece of junk to throw in the Glove box, get a Bersa CC, save a hundred bucks, double your firepower and have a better gun to boot.

I would avoid costly POSs like that.

But that'sa just me

Similar experience as FLA2760. Bought one NIB. Cylinder bound up after about 18 rounds. Sent it to Braztech for repair (UPS Next Day Air ain't cheap, BTW). Got it back about 2 months later. Put 50 rounds of .38 and then 50 rounds of .357 through it without a problem (except for my hand, YOWZA!!). Buying one new is a crap shoot. In hindsight I wish I would have spent the extra $$ and picked up an SP101 instead. Oh well, I hear there may be a tax rebate...

Just curious now- how can I get a S&W 642 into my truck for $365.00? I consider that as real good option at that price. Got one?

I just bought a 462 at Academy for $259 + tax. It seems to be
a great little revolver. I've only put 38 110 grain Winchester .357's
through it so far but it seems to shoot real nice. I though it was hard
to beat as the regular .38 (351) was only $10 cheaper! I don't plan
on cranking out thousands of rounds of 125 grain magnums through it though.
I will probably just shoot .38's mostly. Nice gun!!!

Rossi actions feel like crap and seem to be unable to pass reliability tests when reviewed, as in they sometimes don't fire properly when used in DA mode, at least for the reviewers. Much as people sometimes don't like 'em, I subscribe to Gun Tests and have never regretted following their advice when buying a gun. EVER.

I don't see how saving a hundred bucks over the gold standard in this class of firearm is worth it. What good does it do to have a gun you can't trust?

If you want a truck gun in .357, get one of these: http://www.impactguns.com/store/037084343907.html

Rock solid reliable from the factory; trigger even feels really GREAT with some Wolff Springs for a few bucks. Since it's a gun designed for .45 Colt but with smaller holes bored into it, it's nice and durable. Fun toy, too, and doesn't scare the townsfolk.

If you want a little DA revolver for self-defense... All I had to do is read a few Gun Tests articles and check out the cheaper guns at the store (Charter, Rossi, Taurus). The 642 came home with us, no regrets whatsoever about the hundred bucks.

If you really think it will be stolen, find a way to secure it better. I wouldn't care to have a $250 gun stolen any more than a $350 gun or $450 gun; it's also not exactly responsible gun ownership to plan on providing a concealable little revolver to the local criminal community.

Like shooter429, maybe that's just me. But I'll echo his sentiments 100%

I carry a $1000 Kimber that was described by the shop owner I bought it new from as a good gun "for the money." Of course we had just been discussing the $5000 gun he sold the last time I had been in his shop. I own a Rossi 462 and a much older Rossi 88. Both have been very good guns for the money. They do their job as well as my S&W guns which are also good deals "for the money." pick your poisinand pay your money. My dream truck gun is a top mounted Barrett .50 cal or maybe a .338.

I've had great luck with Rossi firearms over the years and sold a couple I now wish I still had. My current carry is a Rossi and if functions just fine with a better finish than my model 10 Smith ever had.

The rifles are a pretty good deal too. X

Not to burst the Smith fans' collective bubbles, but I have one of these and it outshoots my 642. It is a great little peice and makes a good car gun. The only thing I have to say against it is that the cyllinder seems to bind up after about 50 or so rounds of .357 magnum (not with .38 sp). This seems to go away after the first couple of hundred rounds.

Like any gun, though, I'd certainly subject it to a 200 round reliability test before I trusted it for protection.

i have a snubby .38/.357 rossi and it is a solid little gun and i can actually shoot better with it than i can my xd45

They are good, serviceable little revolves. I've still got a couple of older ones that shoot GREAT. The 3" 68 has a really smooth, if a little stiff, DA and light, crisp SA. It shoots to POA and puts my 148 wadcutters into 2" at 25 yards off the bench. Makes a good .38 "kit gun" and I've carried it occasionally, though I have guns I prefer for carry. It was a gun I bought for my late step father, so I won't sell it. It's too good a little revolver to sell, anyway.

The little .22's DA is, well, never mind, I shoot it SA mostly, LOL. But, the little fart will put a cylinder full into barely over an inch to 2" at 25 yards depending on ammo brand. DAMNED accurate for a kit gun. That sort of accuracy is never a bad thing in the field and it has a great SA trigger. I've shot rabbits and squirrel with it in the field. It's stainless, super sights on it, great little kit gun. Is it as refined as a Smith? No, of course not, but those rabbits didn't know what was hitting 'em. Not being a snob, I like the little gun a lot. In fact, it's my second as I had the first one I bought new stolen. I picked this one up used at a gun show no paperwork (always a bonus).

I also have a .357 magnum lever action Rossi rifle which is a pretty awesome little carbine.

Since this thread was brought back to life, I guess I should update
as to what happened with my 462. I took it out to shoot magnums through
it and it was throwing all kinds of debris back on my face. Looking at it
closer, I realized it had substantial fore and aft play in the cylinder and
the gap was way beyond what a new revolver should have. The dents in the
primers were variable as too their depth and I realize this was because of
the end play. I ended up trading it to a friend who thought he could fix it.
It was a nice looking revolver, but I lost confidence in it.

Here we are a year and a half later and I walk into my local pawn shop
and they have a nice little Rossi 351 .38 for $200 out of the door. It looks
almost new so I checked out the function and end play and walked out with it. :) I've only shot a box through it but so far so good. I'll get back to you
1000 rounds later....

i got the M461 which is the blued version.

i put about 400 rounds through it and broke a firing pin, sent it in and had the updated one put in, another 500 or so later ive had no problems.
