Recently came across a clean looking Rossi M88-2 snubbie in .38 Special.

It's pre-Taurus and seems to be in good shape and fairly new.

Anybody know much about these or have experience with them?
What's a ballpark "good deal" price on one of these?

Hello-

My wife has (and CCW's) the same Rossi everyday. Excellent copies of the
square butt Smith's, and very good shooters I might add. Heck, at one time
I even offered my wife a brand new Airweight S&W model 37-2, and
she refused it as quick as stink gets on _____ (well you know 'bout what
I was going too say~! She bought it NIB, way back in Oct. of '94 and I do
think that she only gave $208 for this stainless gem~!;) :D

I'm wondering about the price though. They're saying $220 in my hands but that seems a bit steep considering I can get a new Taurus for about $100 more without trying to hard.

I believe that Taurus bought out Rossi. Is this weapon a new one? If its older, I would contact Taurus and ask if they cover it under their warranty.

It's an older model. I think I'm going to skip on it. You can get the Rossi equivalent of the Taurus 85 for less than $100 more or the Rossi six shot .357 snub for $100 more...both brand new with Taurus' warranty.

I had one, sold to a friend. It was a good quality, accurate revolver. I bought a Taurus M85UL that's lighter and more compact and didn't really carry the Rossi anymore, but kept it around because it was accurate. Then, I got a 3" M68 I inhereted from my step dad that was a tad more accurate and I like a lot, so I sold the M88.

That price is steep. You should be able to find one for under 200 bucks, but I'd spend 220 on it if I just WANTED it. :D

Looking at the photo, I'd offer $180 and see if I could get it for that. I like my M88 more than I liked my Taurus snubbie.

I got a SS very much like the one pictured for $200 and I've been very happy with it. As long as it is clean, its very nice to shoot. Mine has had quite a bit of caring work done to it though.
It is the most comfortable CCW gun I have ever carried (bobbed hammer of course).
I'd say offer em $180 as well.

Seems on the "high side" too me also; considering that my wife only gave
$208 for one NIB~!
That was 12 years ago too. I haven't even priced a new one but it sounds like the guns may have changed a little when Taurus bought them out. I'm assuming the older ones are better, seems to be the norm except for Taurus.
JMHO
