Rossi M92 Carbine what should I expect?

I just bought a Rossi M92 Carbine in 357 magnum in SS. I was always a fan of Winchester lever guns and found a Rossi at the Houston gun show. It seems well built and the trigger is pretty smooth. I haven't had time to take it to the range yet. Anyone have experience with them? What type of groups should I expect? Hope it shoots as well as it looks.

I have one in 45 colt and love it. Very dependable and probably the strongest action of these types of guns. Now I bought mine new with 20" octagon barrel, case hardened blued finish. I put a few hundred rounds through it then gave it a Steve's Gunz tune up via his DVD and kit. Used Gunslinger springs from Brownells and it has been trouble free for the last 2.5 years with thousands of rounds through it. I've shot everything including standard factory ammo, black powder, Ruger only loads and my own hunting loads based on Ranch Dogs 290 gr bullet. It has been a really good gun especially after a tune up and the trigger was perfect out of the box for me.

Quality control is spotty. Some are great, others are a work in progress. Possibly some ammunition sensitivity running .38 if you decide to. My M92 came with the aformentioned problems, mismatched wood, required an overly obnoxious yank to feed shells... Was extremely dissatisfied. So call me the opposite of joecil's glowing review.

The Rossi may not be as tight as a Marlin or Winchester, but it will work almost 100% of the time. There may be some feeding issues with .38 JHP or SWC (my experience) but this usually gets taken care of after 100 rounds or so. The Rossi is a great gun and carries on the lever action tradition very well! Enjoy

I have a Rossi 92 L.A. in .357 mag. I have had it about 8+ years &try to shoot it often. It is accurate & reliable. I do shoot .38 SPL. in it &have had no problems with doing so. It is a great rifle for my area &a great camping gun. And the firepower is plenty without packing an AR. (Not saying ARs are bad ! ).Have fun &stay safe. Happy Thinksgiveing to all!

I have the Rossi 92 in .45 Colt. It's all good. It works and shoots as it should. Can't find A real fault with it. Love mine!

Rossi M92 357 jam machine

Well, Merry Christmas to me. I got my 38/357 Rossi lever action 5 days ago. Fed-X is taking it back to Taurus today to be fixed.
I don't see how it can chamber any bullet style (swc,rnl,jhp,etc.) in 357 mag. when the cartridge is positioned at the super angle to the breach as this one was.
It almost looks like the machine was designed to break cartridges in half!
If the rifle was not designed to chamber some ammo, then the manufacturer should warn you about it before the gun is sold to any unsuspecting customer.
When one pays over $400 for a rifle it should work with any factory ammo.
If I wanted to waste my money, I'd give it to my wife.

Rossi M92 Carbine

I have a Rossi M92 SS 45 LC with a 20 inch barrel. I have had it for 8 to 10 years. I bought it to Cowboy shoot with and I have shot it alot doing this and I have shot several pigs with it and 2 deer and a few coyotes. Nothing very big the pigs were 200 lbs or less and everything thing was less than a 100 yds really more like 50 to 75 yards. The only problem I have had with my rifle is that it feeds lead RNFP bullits smoother than SWC bullets. If youcall that a problem it also has a very smooth action and a great trigger. I would buy another with out any problem. I really like and enjoy my Rossi.

I have had one for a few years now. Like another poster mentioned, I did the Steves Gunz tune up and the biggest improvement is derived in replacing the stock ejector spring with the one Steve Young sells, that and a little light stoning to the bolt, and replacing the cheap plastic magazine follower with the steel one that Steve sells. Mine is good to go and slick as they come.

Mine likes 38's just fine. When I get bored sometimes, I go down in the basement and shoot some 38's into a 22 trap. They are so quiet out of the 20 inch barrel, I can shoot with no ear protection and the wife can hardly hear em upstairs. I love mine. It would be the last gun I would ever sell.

I have an M92 in .45LC with the 16" barrel and large loop lever and it's doing just fine. The action is super smooth, no problems with the loading gate, and the overall fit and finish are great.

You should expect that if you get the Steve Gunz video and do the minor mods as described you will have one of the slickest lever actions out there.

I have owned 6 or 7 Rossi M-92 clones. Three or four of them were 357 mag.
One would shoot all rounds into a 2 inch group at 100 yards. The others were not as tight , ranging from 3 to 5 inch groups. The good one seemed to only like certain loads and bullet weights.

Wood Finishing

Anyone done any finishing of the walnut wood on an M92? Looks like it could take some tung/linseed oil or the like - as it is, it looks a tad dry & is a little soft (takes little dings without too much effort)?

Rossi got my new M92 38/357 on Dec. 17th. Rossi's web site showed my rifle was still on the shelf awaiting repair yesterday January 24th. Today January 25th, Rossi's web site shows my rifle as repaired, ready to ship back to me.
Rossi's customer support says they had to make two adjustments.
I am investigating further to find out exactly just how those adjustments were made and will report back when I get the info. I hope there are no hammer marks on the rifle, as it is brand new.
You would think that the factory would test the rifle and make these "adjustments" before exporting the gun to the U. S. Rossi has a quality control problem.
