Rossi Rio Grande lever jams open

I recently bought a Rossi Rio Grande in 45-70 and im having trouble with the lever jamming open after the last round has been ejected. I can (unstick) the lever by sticking something through the loading gate and pushing the follower (Factory plastic) back into the magazine tube. That obviously isn't something i want to do every time i cycle the lever empty. Any one have a solution i really don't want to ship this back to Rossi.

Cut the plastic follower off shorter??
I doubt it needs to stick out past the lifter to work properly.

wouldn't the spring keep pushing it out past the lifter if i cut it

I hardly think so.

It has to be bigger then the hole through the receiver to stop it coming out through the receiver and shooting your eye out every time you run out of shells.

I think if you take the spring & follower out of the tube you will find it is tube diameter where the spring fits in it, and then steps down to the part that comes out too far.

It could be Rossi put the wrong follower in it too.
Might be one for a 30-30 or pistol caliber.
Maybe call them and see if they will send you another follower for 45-70?

Ah yes you are correct the one part is wider I will cut back and see if that helps Thank you for your help
