I've been fighting failure to eject issues with my new Rossi RS22. After much head scratching (disassemble, clean, etc...) I noticed a few issues.

First, the bolt would sometimes snag on the (factory) magazine when cycling rounds (running the bolt by hand). A little work with a file and no more snags. (I actually thought I had fixed it at this point, LMAO)

Then I noticed that the left side magazine lip would sometimes contact the rim of the casing and knock it loose from the extractor before it reaches the ejector. (note: I can place a round under the extractor and shake the bolt around without it coming loose). I did some more filing on the magazine to lower that lip and also a bit of light polishing to any observed wear areas on bolt/receiver. 1 drop of oil etc, etc...

The reliability has increased from FTEject every 2-3 rounds to FTE 6 out of 50. Not reliable enough IMHO. Sometimes the case is parallel to the round in the mag but mostly it is turned 90 degrees before being wedged in by the bolt. I have never had this gun fail to feed a round (with this magazine). I have a 25 round magazine for it that is an absolute P.O.S.

I have tried 8 flavors of 22 LR all between 1100-1260 fps, 36 or 40 grain, with no difference in reliability (a nice gentleman at the range gave me 5 different types of ammo to try in addition to the three types I brought with me). Round count is around 400 as of this morning.

Hoping to get some advice from you good folks (sanity check?).

Think I solved the issue. I marked the top magazine lips with a sharpie and cycled the action 50x, then filed down any areas showing contact with the underside of the bolt. Lather rinse repeat. Had to remove a lot more material than I would've thought necessary and on all of the mag lips.
Just put 50 rds. down range w/o a single issue.
Now to fix that p.o.s. 25 rounder...

How clean is the chamber?
Ammo? Have you tried different types and find they eject reliably? Switch ammo then.
I'm hesitant to remove stuff from the bottom of the bolt. That's the feed rib and is needed to strip the fresh cartridge from the magazine.

Remember, ejection is about getting the spent cartridge out of the action. Is it an ejection issue or an extraction issue. Sluggish extraction can result in failure to eject. Bolt has to travel back far enough for the brass case to hit the extractor. The extractor itself really doesn't need work because it's a fixed and non-moving part. Sometimes the angle may need changing but most of the time it doesn't.

I think he was removing metal from the top of the magazine feed lips where they were contacting the bolt (and would act like premature ejectors).

Definitely agree not to cut the bolt.
Bolts are more expensive than magazines.
Magazine (or damage to magazine) is the usual suspect in semiauto malfunctions.

I assumed 4v50 Gary was replying to hwy20 since I answered those questions already. Yes, I filed down the feed lips.
Also have a 25 rnd, mag that doesn't feed reliably. Had it apart several times but it refuses to cooperate. Think I'm gonna tap out and pick up a mag floorplate from numrich then run it as a 10 rounder.
