For those of you who use a rotary tumbler and stainless steel media, what do you add to the mix and what kind? i.e. water, burnishing compound, any other commercial products as well as any home brewed mixes.

Thanks
John

15# capacity Thumler ... I use 3/4 gal of water, 5#s SS media, couple squirts of Dawn dish liquid, a couple of ounces of Real Lemon concentrate and whatever brass it takes to make 15#s total load ... 3 hours and they're good. Rinse afterwards and air dry.

Pretty much the same as Canuck.

I use 5# of media and probably about 5 to 6# of brass. 6# of straight walled pistol and 5# of rifle brass. Enough cold water to go to 1.5" below the top. For some reason or another, when I use hot water, my brass turns a golden color. Cold water and it is perfectly fine. A 40 S&W case full of LemiShine and a squirt of Dawn dishsoap. 3 to 4 hours for most brass. Really tarnished brass may need 6. After rinsing well, I drain as much as I can. I normally give them a little spin in the media separator to get rid of more water. I throw them on a cookie sheet and lay them in the hot TX sun. A couple of hours and they are completely dry. If the sun has set, I'll put the batch in the garage and they'll be dry by morning.

I've received some brass that were brown. Not dirty, just tarnished. 6 hours in SS media and they look better than the stuff that is new.
