I have a S&W 586 that has, I believe Hogue grips on it. There is one screw at the bottom holding them on. I don't care for the sort of squishy feeling and would prefer the Pachmyr feel. Optics planet has some at reasonable prices but I'm not sure of the difference in butt type.

Remove those grips and match your frame with the pictures.

The 586 has a 99.99% chance of being a square butt.

586 is a square butt revolver in all but the 2 1/2" barrel... what barrel length do you have?

Two 6" 586s, one SB, the other RB. The RB is an after-factory modification as indicated by a well off-center serial number. Otherwise, it's indistinguishable from a factory RB. I didn't realize until after I bought the gun that it had been modified.
