I bought a RRA AR lower receiver and tried to install a accuwedge, I could not get it to fit, and still close the rifle.

Ive used them in my other ARs (Bushy & Colt)and never had a problem.

Has anyone else noticed this? Do I need to cut the accuwedge down?(i dont like that idea)

Depending on how deep the CNC mill operater made the well cut in the lower receiver determines whether you will need to trim an Accu-Wedge.
If everything is cut the way it is supposed to be, you will not need to cut the wedge to fit.
Try trimming no more than 1/8" off the top extension first.
If that doesn't work, start shaving the bottom in 1/32" slices until you can get the upper and lower to close.

Rock River claims their upper and lower receivers are 'Match' dimensioned, so the tolerences are tighter and you may not really see any benefit from an Accu-Wedge. If nothing feels sloppy, skip it. HTH

I put together an Essential lower with a CMMG upper, and couldn't get the wedge in there either...but then again, it doesn't rattle without it, so there you go.

My RR Lower

Will not accomodate an accuwedge either, it has a stag upper, and don't rattle either... Just tried to see if one would fit,,,

I've never tried one so don't even know how they go in. But the RRA lowers seem to be machined tighter than most others. All of my uppers fit very toghtly to the RRA lower, not so much on the DPMS.

The fit between the upper and lower doesn't need to be perfect. As a matter of fact a little slop is OK. It will have no effect on accuracy.

The accuwedge is a solution in search of a problem.

IMHO it is a waste if money.

Buy ammo instead.

Ditto here. I bought an Accu-Wedge some time ago in an attempt to eliminate the teeny bit of slop between the upper and lower of my target AR.

Try as I did, I couldn't get the darned thing to fit properly, even after cutting and shaving off significant chunks of it. I finally threw the thing away and laid a rubber O-ring on the rear ledge of the lower receiver for the rear lug of the upper to press into. That worked to eliminate all of the slop, and cost less than that useless Accu-Wedge.

Accuwedges do not fit RRA lowers. RRA puts a higher shelf in there. I couldn't get mine to fit my Eagle lower either so maybe Armalite does the same thing. Fortunately, those receivers are usually pretty tight.

However, mine fits my Bushmaster lower, which is loose.

I agree with Zeke that functionally, it doesn't do that much. The sights are on the upper. However, the rattle just bothers me.

They don't fit Stag lowers either... Not surprising since Stag and RRA lowers are made in the same place, by the same people. ;)

When did Continental Machine and Tool start making RRA lowers? Has it been forever or is this a more recent development?

However, the rattle just bothers me.
While the new RRA is MUCH tighter than the Bushy, the little bit of play between the receivers does bothers me.

I really dont like the idea of a piece of rubber floating around the fire control system however, and "shaveing" the Accuwedge down sounds like an invitation for that to happen.

I've always had to trim a little bit the Accuwedges I've put into my ARs to make them easier to close.

Why though?

Someone posted here about one jamming in the trigger/fcg that required extensive downtime to fix.

Throw those things away before someone gets hurt! :D

Well I have a wedge in most of my match AR's, including the RRA, Bushmaster, and Armalite. Maybe I have a different brand.

As stated before, it is absolutely not needed for accuracy. I just like a tight fit because I like a tight fit. Its called circular logic.

As for accuracy, I remember talking about this with a shooting bud. He shot space gun and had been recognized that year as one of the 200 best highpower shooters in the US, by the NRA. He handed me his space gun. His lower was a lot looser than any one of mine.

Tightness is something that comes out of the bolt gun era. The M14, M1 Garand, and bolt guns all had to be tight or they shot awful. This memory has not faded. But it seems, that the AR can rattle like windchimes, and still shoot MOA, or better.

Never needed one. My RRA has NO rattle or slop whatsoever.
<sarcasm> Too bad its not a mil-spec wonder machine like Stag or Colt </sarcasm>

Ditto with acuwedges not fitting in RRA lowers....
The play between the receivers DOES bother me....

SO.....

I place a rubber band around the front lower lug, close the recievers
and cut away the excess rubber band that is showing.

Sometimes, when I'm lucky, the band stays on after i seperate the 2 halves..

Usually, I have to place a new one on -

For a fraction of a penny and a fit tighter than a ducks ass (dont ask) I'm in AR heaven!:D
