Does anyone have any experience with the two different types of fake collapsible stocks offered by Rock River Arms?

I'm in the process of building an AR and, for a change, wanted to use the fake M4 stock.

They off this one for $95:

It seems to have more "tactical" (ahem) personality.

And, this one for $65:

Which looks more plain jane.

Is there a real functional, or strength, difference between the two?

I have a pre-ban version of the second one you have pictured ("plain jane" original). A buddy of mine has the RRA fixed tele as you have pictured above. It's the newer, supposedly stronger version. I'll refer to them as "new" and "standard" for ease of description. (I was gonna say "ribbed" and "plain", but that wouldn't have gotten very far ;) )

The standard like mine is shorter in length than the new one. The new one also has a larger "shoulder" area for you to rest the rifle on. The new one has the fixed A2 style sling loop as well as the "around the stock" sling option like the standard. The new one is noticeably heavier than the standard, but neither is "heavy".

FWIW, after using the longer, larger "new" one on my friend's rifle, I am considering selling my pre-ban standard and buying a pre-ban new stock for the extra benefits it seems to offer.

BUT, if I do get around to building a (post-ban) 9mm AR, I'm going to use the Entry Tactical buttstock pictured in the middle... Since the telescoping stock is heavier than the A2 stock, I'm going to assume the E.T. stock will be lighter than a fixed telescoping stock, plus I can add spacers and buttplates to get just the length I want. IMHO, a telescoping stock that doesn't telescope loses all it's functionality. Mine has never benefited me by being "shorter and more concealable" so I could rob banks or do drive-by's, it's the fact that it is an ADJUSTABLE LENGTH OF PULL that has been so handy for me.

Hope this helps.

I don't think I really understand what the question is but I won't let that stop me from giving an answer.

The top picture appears to be functioning, pre-ban collapsible stocks that are illegal on post-ban guns. Note that they are functional.

The bottom picture is for "tactical" buttstocks which have an extremely short length of pull. They are optimized for entry teams wearing body armor and extra gear because they normally have a hard time jamming a full length butt stock into position over their armor. Note that these show fixed, pre-ban collapsible and post-ban "fake" collapsible stocks.

IMHO, I don't see the purpose in a fake collapsible stock and I doubt that you would find a really short "tactical" (I hate that word!) stock very comfortable for normal use.

Redlg155 seems to REALLY like his... He did add spacers, as I mentioned, to get it exactly where he wanted it, but that's something you can't do with ANY other postban stock that I know of... IIRC from when he first added it, it's still a tad shorter than an A1.

As for the stocks he was asking about... There are 2 types of telescoping stocks. The standard CAR one, and the newer M4 type. Both are available as pre-ban collapsible or post-ban fixed stocks. Jack19 wanted to know what the difference would be between the smaller CAR and larger M4 "fake" telescoping stocks.... He didn't personally even mention the (teehee) "Tactical" stock... I just threw that one in there myself.

Since funds dictate that my next AR project will be post-ban, I've wondered about the legality of adding a 4 or 6 position pre-ban collapsible stock, setting it to just the LOP that I want it, and then epoxying it in place... I probably won't try it, because of the "Tactical" one being adjustable with the twice mentioned spacers.

*** P.S. - Jack19...
don't let anyone's comments (including mine) about fake telescoping stocks sway you in the least. Given the large number of folks online who say fake collapsibles are , there must not be a SINGLE "web surfer" at the range when I go, because all I see out there are M4geries with "fake" collapsible M4 stocks :neener:

Besides, it's a heck of a lot easier for me to "badmouth" the fakies, since I bought my AR in '93. If I didn't already have a pre-ban, I sure as heck couldn't afford one now!
