The governor has vetoed the CCW compromise bill that was passed through the Illinois House and Senate.

Today's legislative sessions will determine CC in Illinois -either to over-ride the veto or create a situation where "court carry" becomes the defacto law of the land.

Additionally the governor created a "discussion only" bill - HB11 to create public discourse on the issue of gun control in Illinois.

Actually, he did worse than vetoing the bill. He did an amendatory veto which, again, ripped out the guts of a moderately good bill and replaced them with highly restrictive regs. I am glad I have free long distance calling as I have been burning up the air with calls to the legislators. Hopefully, today, they will slap once quinn once again and allow Il residents to exercise their right to defend themselves. Illinois has for too long been dominated by the Chicago machine.

Isn't today the 9th? Doesn't that mean since they didn't do what the courts ordered it now becomes a law automatically? (Sorry didn't pay too much attention to the IL details).

Yes today is the end of the 7th Circuit Court's stay of mandate.

Unless the Attorney General of Illinois files for writ of certiorari from the Supreme Court and the Supreme Court vacates the CA7 decision - Illinois law prohibiting carrying a firearm will be stricken as unconstitutional.

Mike Madigan (Lisa Madigan's father) is probably the most powerful politician in Illinois. He brokered much of the compromise bill, I don't think he much appreciates a political opponent forcing his daughter's hand in filing for cert. I also don't think he appreciates a governor trying to write legislation.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

Urgent Alert

The Senate Dems. plan to caucus right after the Executive committee hearing this morning. If any of the Gov's veto items have any support, they plan to run them as separate trailer bills.

Overridden in the Senate, so it's now law. A flawed law, but still a step in the right direction.

Meanwhile, under the direction of Mayor Rahm Emanuel, the City of Chicago is contemplating a broad definition of prohibited "assault weapons" and expansive school zones that would make it difficult to legally carry anywhere in the City. This fight is far from over.

Looks like the standard convoluted process of passing any legislation that is remotely pro-2A has moved forward and IL now has some form of carry law.

That's a remarkable achievement!
