How good are you with a rubber band?

A long time ago, I figure out that if you stretch one side of the band tighter than the other and roll it off your rear finger while snapping your front finger, the rubber band launches with a spinning effect, tripling or quadrupling the range of a normal flubber. Accuracy is also greatly improved.

I can hit a fly on the wall at three to five yards about 50% of the time. I can easily achieve a maximum range in excess of twenty yards with a standard#31 rubber band.

I also point shoot, after my buddy snapped a band while holding it at eye level. He wore an eyepatch for two weeks, and the workman's comp claim was a little touchy.

How about you?

Good thread.

I found that, if you use the "finger gun" technique, and then roll your hand about 45 degrees, so the rubber band flies off vertically, perpendicular to the ground, you can get very good accuracy.

Finger gun technique: Point index finger and raise thumb to make a "finger gun". Pinch one end of the rubber band between pinky and palm. Wrap rubber band around thumb, and Hook to end of index finger. To release, relax pinky. Sight by using index finger. Rotate wrist as above to keep plane of rubber band perpendicular to ground. Shoot flies or obnoxious co-workers.

Its the original "point & shoot" technique!

Rubber bands @ eye level = DANGER!

During a typical round of office hijinks I was unfortunate enough to learn firsthand what a taught rubber band snapping back off your finger and into your eye feels like. Luckily the pain only lasted two days. You also get to feel real stupid when your boss asks you if you were involved in a fistfight because of your red and squinty eye and you give the real reason...

:D

I used to have rubber band wars with my toy soldiers. I would set them up all over my room (many of them with proper cover & concealment ;) ) and get a shoe box full of rubber bands (I had a paper route for a while) and sit in the middle of the floor for hours picking them off. The odds were usually 300:1 or so but I always triumphed :D . To this day I still annoy people with my accuracy  .

You can grow older but you don't have to grow up  .
